Transfer Portal w IU Interest

Kyler Staley indicates we've reached out to (G) Marques Warrick of Northern Kentucky who has 1 year of eligibility.

Career 35% on 3s but only 30% this past season.  His ppg increased each season and was 19.8 in 23-24.

last night Rabs/trevor said there was two impact players who played in the NCAAT that we’ll have a chance with once they enter the portal. (They did specify that both of them lost)

One of them? Or is Jalen not considered an impact player in Rabby's eyes.

Meant to post this, but forgot when I started researching if that Kanaan Carlyle photo was real. Still working on that.

Maryland tattoo.  Nothing to see here.  Probably going back home or to one Duke, Kansas, Kentucky or North Carolina

Count Hickman as another one that doesn’t resonate with me.  We have 4 guards on the roster now. 1 can and probably will start.  We have 3 likely backups.  We need 2 starter types in my opinion.  I don’t see Hickman or Walker as that to me.

maybe since we had no guards last year Woody wants 8 of them.  Confusing times.

Bigs: Reneau, Mgbako, portal rim protector, Tucker, that Diamante dude as a red shirt, portal backup big defender.

Less bigs: Leal, Gallo, Newton, Cupps, starting point, Hickman, Walker

  1. That's 13.
  2. That pretty certainly will not be the 13 we end up with.
  3. That's a bunch of guards, though using three guards at once is an option.
  4. Feels like an island of misfit toys, though ya never know how it will work or shake out.

I would hope Jalen wouldn’t be considered an impact player. Off the Bench/role player would be what I wouldn’t want him to be. If we are having to start Gallo and Jalen, would you think that translates into a good back court to compete? I do not.

Exactly. Here’s my thing. You are what your top 8 are.  Get 8 guys that fit and the best 8 you can get.  Building blocks 9-13 or whatever your end of bench strategy is. I really think having 10 what needs aimed for but play 8.  Then if injuries, you don’t have as much excuse

recent history of MVC transfers to the Big 10 definitely says that Hickman is a Big 10 starter IMO.

Personally, I would love to have a guy who is a high volume 40% shooter in that 8, especially one who displays other skills as well.  He’s not Nick Zeisloft who only did one thing very well.

IMO we do NOT need more 'rim protectors' -- all that does is feed into Woodson's incredibly stupid, outdated, and f ' ing annoying insistence on running offense through the post / playing two prototypical bigs up front w/o actual wing play and all while completely ignoring the perimeter. Yes, I'm a broken record here, but please please let's move on from the rim protector idea.

Get lengthy wings/guards. Malik and MM are good forwards, both showed development getting more mobile. Can replace Sparks / Banks as backups, not as a Ware replacement

And who , pray tell, is going to guard the five? Certainly not Malik Reneau.

Couldn't agree more. We had an amazing "rim protector" last year and our defense was awful. Our rim protector didn't help us much when the Japanese Steph Curry was bombing 3s on us.

That being said - of course Woody is shopping for a rim protector.
