Transfer Portal w IU Interest

Along with everyone else in the country.  From Maryland, I'd hate for him to end up in the conference with the Terps.

That's a good call. To IU's benefit though, there are far worse places for a really good player to end up than with Kevin Willard.

Mack can be on any roster he wants. For him to pick Maryland and Kevin Willard? He would need to be entering the portal all but solely because he is homesick.

Turning down the top 20 programs and NIL budgets for that turd Willard does not make any sense.

Connor Hickman can PLAY. Way better athlete than you'd realize.

Leading scorer on a 21-12 mid major.  Three year starter.  Not just a three point shooter but is a very, very good perimeter shooter.  Three assists/game when he wasn't the point guard at Bradley is very good.

I don't know the X's and O's differences between BU and IU, but Wardle's system is very defense-focused also. Pretty likely that that side of the ball is one less thing to worry about with him.

Maryland already signed two transfer guards in Ja'Kobi Gillespie (Belmont) and Rodney Rice (Va Tech).  Gillespie is a 6'1" point guard who averaged 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists last year and has two years eligibility left.  Mack to Maryland would make no sense.  They have their point guard for the next two years.  Rice is a shooting guard, but it would seem strange to see Mack want to commit to Maryland after they already brought in two guards including one that fits his position.

Would he run the point? I’m guessing IU has to be the favorite?

I don’t think they have signed the Belmont guard yet. Also rice hasn’t played in over a year.

I know that Riensk Mast played there the previous year and averaged 13.8 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists;  played at Nebraska this past season and put up basically the same numbers (12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3 assists).  So the precedent is there for players transferring from Bradley to the Big Ten without seeing a big drop in numbers.

Not really a point, but I think if he and Galloway were the two backcourt players on the floor together that the ball movement would be fine without a natural point guard.  I'm on record as saying that you don't need a natural point guard as long as you have multiple competent options on the floor.

Sorry, you are correct.  On3 is projecting Gillespie to sign but he hasn't signed.  I would say if I were Maryland and felt that Gillespie was close to signing, I'd be locking in on him as opposed to joining what is likely to be a highly competitive race for Mack.

Can't tell me EVERY kid from Indiana doesn't at one point put themselves in candy stripes, under 5 banners, thinking about playing at Assembly Hall when it's rocking. Hopefully Conwell, with a big ole NIL incentive, wants that more than another spot.

I wish.  That doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Cupps is coming back. Not sure if posted but on Hysterics podcast he announced coming back

Alright, well my BIG ten rivaled father steered me wrong and thus you guys to a degree. Apologies.

sidenote- I personally don't know where Leal and Cupps fit in the rotation if we are looking to win big.  We need Woody to get 2 starter quality guards imo then you have our returning 4 guards.  Interesting....

I don't believe that, at all.

It's definitely believable, especially in central Indiana. The amount of rooting interest for Indiana between the casual 10-17 year old is the lowest I've ever seen. My youngest son who is now sophomore at IU played on a pretty darn good 4A basketball team a few years back and the lack of interest in Indiana amongst his friends and teammates was staggering. I don't ever recall my son watching an IU game unless it was with me...it's not something he would go out of his way to do. I think that parallel's a lot of kids sentiments across the state.
