Fair enough. And Pretty much agree. But I’ve lowered my expectations based on the roster we’ve put together. As it seems much of the fanbase has, particularly at BTBanners. That’s fine and all, but with NIL opportunities I’m not sure we should be.

I think the difference is I don’t have expectations.

Every year I have curiosity and anticipation.

I am losing my anticipation slowly. I need to be surprised once to get my hopes back up. Having a real coach helps and him having a bit of success will be huge. I feel this roster will succeed when the three ball is going in and have some surprise wins.

Surprise wins and butt ugly losses depending on whether three point shots are falling.

A style that will take this fan base some getting used to.

It feel like we experienced some of that with Crean.

Hopefully the defense will keep us in games when the shots aren't falling--unlike the Crean years.

You guys are funny! We need to be top level in year 1. There is no excuse or time for a rebuild! I am not saying he can't get it going in 2 years but if next season is a failure it won't be easy to rebound from imo. Posters already making excuses is laughable. I remain optimistic however he can coach this roster to a better result than most think. Time will tell but to say we shouldn't expect success immediately is ridiculous

So if next year isn't "top level" then it's a failure? Nothing in between? Are you saying that if IU isn't a very legit NC contender in year 1 we should probably move on because it won't be easy to rebound from that? You've got to be kidding or should maybe define "top level" better.

Good point and true.

Been nine years of Crean gone tho

I know Coach Devries says he likes what we have at the 5 but we play in the Big Ten. Two words-foul trouble, make that four words--injuries happen. just need some depth in the frontcourt. Time will tell. Let's all have fun this summer. The team arrives next week and practices and workouts begin. We should hear a few tidbits how players are looking. July we're back to AAU games and recruiting updates and maybe some more visits. August we have the Puerto Rico trip and hopefully some video of the team against some quality competition. September more visits and hopefully commitments. And football will be back.

Define “top level” please…and your definition of success.  That would help me understand what the heck you’re saying, sir.  :)

If we win more than 10 games in the conference this year we'll make the tourney and DeVries can coach. Thats the ceiling. Between 7th and 14th could go a lot of ways. I think I did a May, Pop, Kelsey rough average and through it out there as an expected bar to reach, and theres no way that will be possible. I'm a long ways from being swayed into thinking that Dolson really hit it out of the park.

It’s nice that you stop by the forums every few weeks to baselessly speculate and then panic and crash out for no reason.

About the same as Mike Woodson's teams is the ceiling? What is the floor?

Opinions are what we're here for and you are certainly entitled to yours, but I'm curious what the basis is for your opinion.

  • Can't be roster quality because Woodson failed with far more roster star power, and Kelsey succeeded greatly last year with significantly less roster buzz.
  • Isn't it more accurate to state that the new era is currently a big, fat question mark, but is being led by a staff that has flat-out produced results wherever they've been.

This is me looking too far into things…. Lamar Wilkerson is listed as #3 on the roster… but in a recent video posted on social media, he’s wearing the #32 practice jersey…. Maybe a sign Leal is returning to wear #3?

Most fair / balanced line of thinking imo.

have seen projections of IU finishing 12th in conference or worse and best case being a low tourney seed.
I think that’s overly pessimistic considering DeVries’ track record in building teams and record, the level of players brought in across the floor including elite outside shooting on high volume (Wilkerson particularly), the veteran depth and the history of winning the transfers bring. That said, we really have no idea how well they will gel, how ready they will be as a team for B1G level bball, and how consistently they can win without a banging big up front (I’m less concerned about that, but of course don’t know).
I personally am high on the team’s construction and running and shooting plan, and am pumped to see Wilkerson and Conerway getting down the floor and orchestrating offense. I think we’ll be a lot better than 12th, but it’s hard to predict at this point
