With the money I've heard of being thrown around the transfer portal these top players with a year of eligibility would be taking a pay cut to join the league. For some reason we aren't an option for any of them as far as I can tell. Home Jersey and Hoosierfanyuh 2 Quote

I'm sure the NIL plays the biggest factor in that, but it could be partly preference too. This season is a bit curious and kind of back to the older Moren days of a lot of transfers. Most of them didn't project to get a lot of minutes besides Garzon, so while its a bit curious it may not be that big of a thing either. But we will likely always be a step below USC, UCLA. We seem to compete decently against OSU and Maryland despite the talent differences. This season was probably a bit of an eye opener for Moren and Staff. Might also explain the wholesale changes to an extent. GloryDays 1 Quote
TTT Posted April 1 Posted April 1 On 3/26/2025 at 6:30 PM, TTT said: IU were actively trying to recruit probably 5 or 6 5 star recruits during the last couple years of Holmes era that they struck out on. Rhet Wierzba spent in person time at tournaments where these recruits were playing. Recruits visited and some posed with big ten championship trophy. IU Ladies made top programs lists. Blakes being one, Prince another, and a 6’3” center that went to go set on the UCLA bench. Avery Howell was another. IU has not turned down elite recruits. Rather, elite recruits have turned down IU after trying to pursue a particular recruit. Recruits have to want to come. Besides NIL. Garzon has always been a very serious competitor. This is a result of recruiting inadequacies. She probably wants to plug into a stable team that is a championship contender. And IU Ladies look like pretty much a new team. Does anyone withdraw from transfer portal not including players that coaching staff did not give any incentive for players to come back (unwanted players)? Grass is not always greener on the other side. T. Moren pushed Garzon to expand her game. She also pushed Parrish to expand her game beyond just being shooting 3 pointers. (A higher level ability level team may allow Garzon to play better to her strengths) rather having to compensate for team weakness. Quote
Claxdj01 Posted April 1 Posted April 1 It’s all quite the conundrum. The stands are nearly empty at many of the top women’s programs. At one point this season Indiana was ranked 4th in the country in attendance, over doubling USC and UCLA. One the of the biggest and most storied home courts in all of basketball. Had as many nationally televised games as anyone. Hard for me to figure out why it doesn’t translate into a destination for portal players and recruits alike. Garzon is a big loss, but her numbers are also remarkably stagnate for her career. Shooting percentage has fell with every season. On the games where she was hitting it was amazing, but there were also many games where she was invisible. TTT and J34 2 Quote

She is playing CONSIDERABLY more on the ball now, and her quality of shot has gone down TREMENDOUSLY compared to when she was a FR. She is a better, to quite a bit better player, and shooter now, than when she first got her. NatHillIV 1 Quote
TTT Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Confused. Thought Phoenix Stotijin was committing to IU. Now, I see IU Ladies are no more than her top 5 list. Unimpressive. Have to fight for this level of player to much. A player of this caliber should be a lot easier to get for IU. Quote
TTT Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Among Spreen, Stotijin and other (crickets), maybe IU Ladies will get some kind of a small guard. (Stotijin did have some decent Nertherland stats and would be a good one). Then is IU Ladies still apart of the Merkle tour? Things including recruiting have always seemed to be pretty private in IU Ladies basketball program. Just seems like there is way to much scratching and clawing to get what they get. (there have been a couple of exceptions but not hardly any do top players make a fast straight line to IU). Quote
TTT Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Per T.G….Cal 6’3” player Marta Suarez has entered transfer portal ((no contact). Several 6’3” players in transfer portal. Maybe, IU Ladies will eventually get something. ( she would probably be a good one). Quote
TTT Posted April 1 Posted April 1 It reads Garzon has placed her name in transfer portal….no contact….could mean she has designation or agent handling contacts…..which could mean after further consideration she completes transfer or she withdraws transfer and returns to IU. Quote

Are you saying the programs are listed by favorite being on top left when looking at it. Could it be listed according to date of visit or meaning nothing at all? (especially if she chooses for example bottom right). My point is this is a good player but not an elite player. And there is much playing time available on IU roster, facilities, recent seasons, and number of fans, coach involvement in summer coaching on national level vs the other programs listed. Doesn’t show much respect in the sense of it should not be this hard to get this caliber player (though a good player) to come to IU. Quote

I somehow managed to change that into "not on her top five list." My bad. We need some "good but not elite players." I fear we will need warm bodies, unfortunately. Elite would be great , but hate to see us end up with nine players to start the season. Take Spreen. She WANTS to play here, and will bring a boat load of BNL fans. Maybe not "elite,' but so what? :) Edited April 2 by NatHillIV addition to post TTT 1 Quote

Spreen is ok currently to set on the bench with future to be determined depending on improvement and adaptability. (and what else is being worked on in the portal). Maybe, on a near afternoon T. Moren will be surrounded by 5 or 6 or 7 tranfer portal players to introduce that part of the 2025-2026 version of the IU Ladies basketball team. Unless it was coach driven the IU Ladies who are currently in the portal except Garzon (who minutes was not issue unless it was the way she was assigned to play) I don’t see any of them getting more playing time unless they drop to a lower conference level program or a lesser level program. It will be interesting if there are any who withdraw their names from portal or where they end up and how successful any are. Quote

Lilly Meister MIGHT land somewhere with a deal of some sort. How this mass exodus all came down is certainly a very well kept secret, at least to me. I simply don't understand it. Quote
