Probably means RMK never went to back to back FF or 3 in 5 years. Since UCLA how many teams have done that. I can think of Duke but not many other programs HoosierHoopster 1 Quote

I can think of Duke but not many other programs Unless I’m mistaken (and that’s possible) Coach K and Roy Williams did this multiple times along with John Wooden. UK did it ‘96, ‘97, and ‘98. Then they did it again in 11 and 12 and 14 and 15. UCONN was close, they had 3 FF’s from 2009 to 2014. Tom Izzo went to 4 in 5 years from ‘99-‘04, and back to back in 09-10. Also, Brad Steven’s did it 10 years ago. All of these are examples of either back-to-back FF’s or three in five years. Why can’t we aim for that, too? Because RMK didn’t do it? Because of NIL? Sorry, fellas. For me BACK means we’ve climbed to the tippy top and not just accumulated a few E8’s and a couple second place finishes in the B1G. cybergates 1 Quote

Howland did it at UCLA. Izzo did it. It’s not inconceivable. It’s also not something I’d necessarily judge a coach by. go iu bb, thebigweave and lillurk 3 Quote
IUHoosierJoe Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Interesting question. I haven't read all the replies yet, but the first thing that popped into my head was, "I'll know it when I see it." Then I realized that probably isn't even true, because I thought we were "back" after the two Cody Zeller years, even though we fell short of our tournament goal his second year. We had two of our best years in a decade and recruiting commitments were rolling in. Then, inexplicably, we had two decommitments, recruiting fell off, and we were looking for a new coach a few years later. At this point, my thought is it's going to take a special coach to get us back to where we want to be. "Back" to me consists of stacking seasons where we at least compete for a Big Ten championship (and win some now and then), are good enough to be considered a Final Four contender (and make it once or twice a decade), and where our rare "down seasons" are no worse than Mike Woodson's first year. And also, start winning some Big Ten tournaments. To me, probably the most damning thing about where we are now is that we have never even won a Big Ten tournament. Quote
