It seems to me at least the vision is to hold until portal season and hit a Homer.  I mean, in general I love that. Mature guards with experience.  But they had X on the roster for 3 years and thought he was the answer.  This entire board knew we needed a Great guard in this last portal to complete this team, yet…..

My faith in their selection and usage is way down.  I’m not sure who or where the next can’t miss thing is, but this staff needs to find it.   And it better not be Connor Essegian if they are truly trying to win.

I will say I think it is easier to hit a homer in the portal than it is out of high school. At least with the portal, you have seen these guys against college talent. High school guys, it takes time to adjust. Look at Mgbako, it took him a half-season to figure things out.

The problem here again is an assumption of IU/Woody is wrong and there must not be much wrong with these guys if XYZ is still interested. The assumption is also that those schools are interested.

Sanon - It has been said Kansas has backed off as well and as I said, you can’t go by who these players say is on their list. Due to recruiting rules, they can say whatever they want and coaches can’t comment. Irony is Providence fans feel like they are getting him the most and they lost Davis for this same stuff.  English wasn’t willing to be held to demands for pay.

Davis - yes, he is asking for a lot. Has a tough camp around him and why he backed of his Providence commit. He is up to 77 in the rankings and has very few schools even interested. There is a reason. Not even sure what your point that he visited Shrews. Shrews has become the backup QB everyone thinks is so great but results say differently. He also passed on him as well.

You and others keep saying - it isn’t this guy, it is we have missed on everyone - ok.  I would rather have 2 portal guards anyway and willing to assume the lessons were learned and will get done. So it isn’t a worry for me at all.

We will need to agree to disagree on all this. My main point among all of it is fans are way too worked up, making assumptions on everything. Fans can say that comes with losing yada, yada. Sure, I guess but not sure what jumping to conclusions helps.

I think fans are worked up because without a miracle we're going to miss the NCAA tournament. Which is the bare minimum we should be doing every year. I think fans are worked up because we haven't beaten one quality opponent this season. When in fact not only have we lost, we have been blown out. There are a lot of reasons fans are worked up this season. But since he had two good seasons the previous two, he gets a chance to fix it next year. As you said hopefully we have learned our lesson and have better connections this portal season.

It is harder than fans think.

I’m guessing most fans know how hard it is they just don’t care.  Their team they are invested in stinks and has laid an egg up until this point and they are frustrated. They are venting their frustrations on a message board. In my opinion It’s a lost cause  trying to convince every one of them to realize how hard it is.   People are getting  paid a lot  of money to try a figure how to make winning less hard and up until this point nothing has been figured out

Sums it up. It’s a big business. You invest top 10-20 money you want like results. I’m even gentler. Make the tourney each year. Build momentum. But whatever you call what’s happening this season should be unacceptable. Gonna be an interesting off season to say the least.

I am not trying to convince anyone.  Very aware many won’t change. Same as those fans want to vent daily about stuff from 25 years ago, I calmly try to explain why maybe everyone should take a breath.  Guess that is annoying.
All this stuff does tie together and maybe some of you don’t see the stuff in other channels and that clouds your view. My response would be, open your world view and don’t pretend this is rampant.
Same as many want to vent there frustrations on message boards about the team, I am venting my frustration with fans booing players at home, tweeting at players on social media and calling them thugs, bums etc. TJD getting letters sent to him.  Saying that just because it is a “business” doesn’t give people a right to treat anyone that way.
“Players need to stay off social media” “all fan bases do it” - all excuses for poor behavior.
I am sure it will be said, that is the exception, not the rule. Nah, it is becoming the rule with many IU fans. This entitlement that because we sucked for 20+ years, we deserve a winner, we are upset. we are passionate (my favorite one), doesn’t mean this team, these players and even to some extent, yes, this coaching staff deserves the hate.
IU fans love to say “sure, blame the fans, like it is our fault.” No, but that doesn’t give them a right to act like jerks to our team.

I never condone tweeting players. It’s the lowest of low.

Booing terrible play and terrible coaching, I’m fine with that. It’s not me, but I get it. The fans didn’t boo last year. Boo’d at 2 games this year?

I mean, it’s just soft. Losing mentality gets wrapped up in this and blames this. Winner mentality gets hungry to get better so they don’t stink up the joint night in and night out. Put in the extra work. Fuel the competitive fire.

I can guarantee you, if the basketball effort was there and the coaching IQ you wouldn’t see the boo’ing. This particular team just acts like they don’t give a damn besides a few guys. Acting like Indiana fans are any different than any other passionate fanbase is offbase. Pay attention to a Kentucky season when they miss a tournament. We don’t come close to that sort of behavior. I would say check other fanbases, but they don’t miss the tournament so it’s hard to compare.

Sorry Wayne - I like your posts, genuinely but you just repeated exactly what I said people are doing. It is all an excuse to behave poorly.
So our standard is if UK fans are toothless hillbillies who jump off a bridge, we should too?
Saying these players don’t care is wrong and you are assuming a lot. They care a ton. You are big mad…. they are too. They are upset the same as you. They want to be better. You know what doenst help, being booed and harassed by their own fans.
That isn’t soft. That is called being human. I again refer you to the Fife video I posted this last week? So was he was soft too?
In my experience, fans who talk about players being soft, that they need to suck it up, etc. have never played any sport at a high level. Even the greatest players get into their own head. They get upset. Again, they are human. We used to just call it a slump, the yips, etc
Pretty sure you are one of the posters here who says they don’t go on social media. If you did, your perspective may be a lot different. It is really bad right now. Isn’t just a few guys either. Probably the only reason I would personally support a change because this isn’t ok.
In my experience you are either part of the problem or the solution.

Fair points but I definitely didn’t repeat what you said. I said I don’t condone stupid @‘s on Twitter. I am fine with Boo’ing although I wish it weren’t necessary.

My Kentucky reference isn’t what you are discussing either. My point with that, is their fans are significantly more ruthless than our fans, and yet Kentucky generally overcomes it to have solid seasons and continue to recruit incredibly well. Therefore blaming the fans for the team’s failures isn’t a 1:1.

Everything sucks when you lose. Everywhere. Some fanbases just give up hope. I do go online. I’m on Twitter. I see some of it. I also played sports at a high level but certainly not this kind of level. If I was at this level and playing terrible I’d expect to see exactly that mirrored on social media. I’d probably avoid reading it and bust my @$$ to play better.

Yeah, I'll never condone tweeting players or writing letters to them. Boo birds aren't unique to IU though, and there are fanbases worse than ours. If UK etc endured our last 20+ years those fans would be on another level.

I, for one, am sure glad you’re keeping tabs on everyone’s behavior. Keep fighting the good fight, Deputy.

The phenomenon of a goofy grown man standing in front of a high schooler to take a picture that the kid doesn't want to take has always been the strangest part of recruiting content. Is there not another way?
