Nevaeh Caffey @veahhoops10 recent highlights posted in Fanatical Hoosier.  Highlights may not include the unhighlights but I think IU and fans are eventually going to have a love affair with Caffey especially with the other recruits coming in over the next couple years (after Parrish, Bargesser, Ciezki, Moore McNeil, and Sandvik)

Per St Louis Dispatch quoted an overjoyed Nevaeh Caffey after helping her team to a seventh straight state championship that she did not hesitate regarding previous week surprise visit at practice from her head coach who is recovering from a heart attack:  “it was 10 times better than winning the state title, something I am never going to forget.”

Admirable character right after a state championship.

Team hadn't played for 2 weeks and maybe some nerves at knowing the record was on the line but the team didn't look particularly sharp for the 3 quarters I was able to watch.  Caffey is a good ball handler and has good court vision.  She's not afraid to take it to the basket but today she got blocked at least 4 times and I don't think she scored many points.  Full game stat line should be available either later tonight or tomorrow.

The streak ended today in the Hoophall Classic at the hands of Etiwanda, CA.  Etiwanda was the #18 team in MaxPreps poll and Incarnate Word #15.  Final score was 74-65.  Nevaeh did about all she could.

The keys to Etiwanda's win:

  • 23 points off 15 IW turnovers
  • 20 second chance points
  • Held IW to 9.1% from three

Incarnate Word suffered its 2nd loss of the season at the hands of Louisville Sacred Heart 82-76.  This was the school's 3rd weekend in a row on the road and 9 of their last 11 have been road games.  Nevaeh did her part scoring 32 pts. on 14-26 FG and added 6 reb.
