(2024) - SF- Annor Boateng to Missouri

Rob Cassidy on players on the rise - Annor Boateng

WHY HE’S ON THE RISE: It might be a bit too early in the grassroots season to get too carried away talking about Boateng’s rankings potential because he’s already highly regarded, but if his first weekend on the EYBL circuit was any indication there simply aren’t many more complete prospects in the country.

His first game of the grassroots season saw him score 26 points and grab seven rebounds in a matchup with top-five prospect Dylan Harper. Boateng scored from every part of the floor in the contest, shooting 50% and showing impressive effort on both the glass and the defensive end. He averaged 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds in four games in Dallas last weekend. If Boateng stays the course a move into the top 10 feels like a forgone conclusion.

RECRUITMENT: Boateng, who plays his high school ball at Little Rock (Ark.) Central, is already a priority target for schools such as Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Auburn. His offer list is likely to explode this summer.

“Just the program. They kind of came in a little later, but it’s about how they’re recruiting me and how they got the head coach engaged as well. If you’re not talking to the head coach at this stage, that’s how you know they’re not really serious with you."

“Having them in there, I respect them. I pay more attention to them with how they conduct themselves.”

What Woody and the staff have done in getting elite players to Bloomington for OVs is pretty damn impressive.

I’m super happy and impressed with Woody and the staff’s recruiting chops but I feel like IU has always been able to get visits from the elite players. It was just landing a respectable percentage of them that was the problem.

I agree with that. After years of swinging and missing on some big time recruits I am ready for the Grand Slam. I am positive but still concerned we may have to settle for second tier players.
