Scott wants IU fans to be satisfied with perpetual mediocrity and not raise a fuss about it. His “it’s the fans fault” take is asinine. The fanbase is the best, and only constant, thing the program has going for it. The fans still show up and show out even when the team routinely fails to do so.

Well we have blamed everything else and changed every other position so what is the problem. We have chang coaches many times in both sports, we have changed AD's many times. The administration is totally different so in your opinion why is Indiana basketball stuck in mediocrity. Our current coach and AD has only been on the job a couple of years so why not be patient with them to see what they can do.

I would hope we would never want to compare ourselves with that fan base

The point is that you think IU fans are bad but we're mild compared to how some would be.  You think Duke or UNC would be content with our last 20?  Highly doubtful.  Passion of the fans is one of the few things this program has going for it right now, but that same passion cuts both ways.

Nobody is satisfied at all and we all want IU basketball to get back to what it was like when I was growing up.  All I am saying is that our fans and that includes me at the first sign of trouble turns on the coach. I am not saying the fans are even close to being the main problem but it might be a small problem.  Like I said we have made change after change and nothing changes.

Name one positive change in last 20 years

You can rearrange the pieces within the program but nothing will change until the program drops the holier than thou attitude and decides to operate like a real elite sports program. I know you’ll just respond with “I’d rather lose every game than do that” like you always do, but there’s your answer.

We handcuff ourselves with our recruiting and then refuse to pony up for the caliber of coach you have to have if you want to win big while driving the speed limit. Dolson’s big brain idea to resurrect a floundering program was to hire a 63 year old mediocre former NBA head coach with zero college experience. Mike Woodson isn’t a bad coach. He might even be above average in college. But he isn’t elite. He isn’t Tony Bennett. He’s not going to win big without elite talent, and the IU program refuses to uncuff the staff and let them do what needs to be done to get it.

Yep. And I'd argue it's not like IU admin has done a great job picking coaches.  Woodson hadn't been a HC in nearly 10 years despite how the NBA recycles coaches.  Take away a Wade fueled FF run and Tom Crean was wildly mediocre Marquette.  Outside of his first year Miller's Dayton teams couldn't shoot, which still continues with him.

I think I'm today's college basketball when there is a big opening you are not seeing that job filled by another elite coach.  Just look in the last year with Coach K, Williams and Wright, those jobs were filled by assistant coaches with no HC experience.  These coaches see that you can win anywhere and make big money anywhere so why leave your job to take on a job like IU or any other elite job.

But the Crean and especially the Archie hire was thought to be a big time hires when they happened.

The same year we hired Woody we saw Chris Beard leave Texas Tech for Texas. And if it doesn’t work out for Duke/UNC, they won’t hesitate to fire their guys and swing for the fences. It’s not like it’s UNC’s first time replacing a legendary coach.

With Crean it was hype built on 1 run, he was inconsistent without that.  And I wasn't a fan of the Miller hire when it happened, I was pretty vocal on this board about it.

With both coaches there were warts that our admin should've seen.

Same for Kentucky. Kentucky got to an NIT and NCAAT birth. Indiana fans would be claiming to give him another 6 years after that. Kentucky told him to kick rocks, you suck and brought in Calipari. Now, the problem is there clearly isn't a Cal out there. And like UNC or Kansas did, there is a Bill Self or Roy Williams out there. There just aren't those kind of great college coaches anymore and the ones that are, are very very very old or have been at their school forever.

Imagine how UK fans would be if they had our last 20 years...

They literally have a thread on Rupp Rafters about "at least we aren't Indiana." Because they know, even with their last few years, they still aren't as bad as Indiana and things are looking way better for them than they do us.

It helped that Beard was an alumni of UT. The time they replaced Williams it was Guthridge who was a long time assistant with no HC experience.  Also Williams wouldn't have went to UNC from KU if he wasn't an alumni and former assistant at UNC.

Who cares about UK and what they think. Never want IU compared to UK fans

Yea... I'd take Calipari over Davis, Crean, Archie and Woody. 7 days a week.

Everyone has their opinion which is fine but I would never want Calapari coaching at the school I root for. Just like I hated having Sampson as our coach.
