Mikayla Blakes freshman at Vanderbilt 98 vs Auburn 88 in overtime who (IU and T.Moren players and staff recruited hard) scored 55 points on 15 for 28 shooting including two 3 pointers  and 23 for 24 free throws plus 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Blakes averages 21.8 points per game 46.2% from the field.

IU Ladies need to win a couple of recruiting battles for the very high elite players.  Lost this battle to none other than Vandy.

The Mike Woodson conundrum.  How many years do you give one of your own?  They do have a precedent in that they axed Versyp but that was after 15 years as head coach.  No idea how much rope they'll give Geralds.

2021–22 Purdue 17–15 7–11 T–9th WNIT Second Round
2022–23 Purdue 19–11 9–8 7th NCAA Division I First Four
2023–24 Purdue 15–19 5–13 T–11th WNIT Great 8
Purdue: 51–45 (.531) 21–32 (.396)

Keep her! She's great!

The process says ...

If Archie gets four years, Woody gets four years.

If Versyp gets 15 years, Geralds gets at least half that!

Diana Taurasi is retiring.

ESPN headline: "Goodbye to the GOAT."

But is she the greatest of all time? Maybe in terms of accomplishments, but in her era -- there were many more accomplishments to be had.

I guess I'm old school: I'm going with Cheryl Miller -- aka Reggie's older sister.

Taurasi is who I grew up with watching. Loved watching her in college didn't really watch her in the WNBA.

The reason this was done is that NW could have back doored their way into the Big Ten Tourney with fewer losses without these forfeits (remember bottom three miss Indy completely). Penn State played during this time and made trip during the wildfires and life went on. NW chose not to travel when others did (maybe trying to avoid two losses although I have no proof of that) and the Big Ten penalized them accordingly so they don't screw others who made this trip out of spot in Indy.

I cannot stand all this media seeing the release and not knowing the whole story parachute in and criticize the league. To the Big Ten's criticism though, what I said should have been laid out in press release with the decision so it was clear why.

Something like "Northwestern made what they thought was a sound decision to not travel during the LA wildfires. However, given the decision by Penn State to make this trip at the exact same time, we felt the forfeits were necessary so other teams were not penalized from making the Big Ten Tourney who did compete against UCLA and USC"

A terrible press release when it comes to PR, so in some ways Big Ten getting the criticism it deserves for not explaining this well and leaving interpretation open. However, the decision itself was absolutely correct.

Katie Geralds gets another year at Purdue.  Katie is doing quite well for herself considering.  Last summer got a raise from $550,000 to $700,000.  A $2,000,000 buyout before June 30.  Money can’t always buy love and wins.

Purdue has made it clear they only care about football and men's basketball and whatever happens with their other sports is a bonus. This is basically the Kansas model and there is certainly justification for it given that is where the money is.

The question is do the other four teams near the bottom of the league use the Kansas model and just let their programs continue to be beyond terrible. Stay tuned.

Their softball team isn't much better either.

Their volleyball is elite only because they have had a coach for years who is essentially Todd Yeagley and is left over from the last athletic director (Morgan Burke) who took all the sports seriously. This current guy (Mike Bobinski who is retiring) only cares about football and men's basketball and whatever else happens is a bonus.

There is a reason why the Crimson and Gold Cup was more even in the past as Purdue took all their sports seriously. However, right now they could care less what happens outside the big two and it's why IU almost always wins the overall competition across all sports. IU since Glass has made all 24 sports an equal priority for better or worse.

You can argue both ways certainly which model is better but that is the reality right now.

Obvious observation/s….no secret:  Kenny Brooks KY coach:  South Carolina just brings in McDonald’s All Americans for MacDonald’s All Americans.

LSU, UCLA, USC, UCONN, and Texas (7 on team), ND 6),  and some others to maybe a lesser extent.

T. Moren over the years she realized her goal of a regular season big ten championship.

She has mentioned a national championship to a much lesser extent especially recently.  However, the odds (true of at least 90% of the Ladies college basketball programs) the odds are really stacked against IU Ladies and the other 90%.
