Swear this dude is tom crean 2.0. Act like a clown on the side line and when things go bad start throwing people under the bus.

Which if true means we may be 2 head coaching hires away from a decent one!

Except Cream was able to win 2 B1G titles and 6 post season games.

The reality of the matter is Allen isn't going anywhere -- unless he has some sort of epiphany, realizes he's in way over his head and resigns.

Dolson has proven quite adept at fundraising (witness getting alumni to pony up $10M to fire Archie), but I have a difficult time believing he'd be able to get nearly $21M to fire the football coach. And if CTA is let go before the end of next season, that's what he's owed.

Heck, even if we tried to make a move after next season, it'd still cost almost $8M.

Perhaps -- and this would be a big if -- the sides could agree that this isn't working and negotiate a lesser buyout? Not sure how, or if, that would work. But that seems to be the only hope at this point.

But there’s a lot more than the raw number that goes into the actuarial equation.

It’s not a lump sum; it’s offset by his future income; there’s significantly less revenue if he stays; etc.

I think he’s gone at the end of the season.

Chryst last year got fired mid season and took an $11 mn buyout compared to the $16 mn or so he was contractually obligated to. Doing some reading, he got that money in a lump sum rather than over several years like most buyout or owed monies are. There's always room for negotiation.

If only we were good enough to fire a coach like Chryst.

I’m the last one to get on a message board and bash coaches.  But if there is one thing I’m extremely disappointed in with Tom Allen, it’s our (lack of) defense.  I thought defensive acumen was one thing Allen brought to the table.

I’ve read the arguments that a better offense would help the defense.  While I understand that, I’m not sure I agree it would make much difference.  I look at a program like Iowa, whose offense has been terrible, probably worse than ours.  Their defense scratches and claws and keeps them in every ballgame, even against really good teams.  That’s their culture.  That’s what I hoped Allen was bringing to Indiana.

That’s not been our culture since long, long before Allen, I realize.  Our culture has always been closer to “when things go bad, throw in the towel.”  Unfortunately, even though he’s supposed to be a defensive coach, Allen hasn’t had any success in changing that.

Unlike Crean then Miller, I don't think the next football hire could be even worse than the current one.

I wish I was as optimistic as some of you are about buying out Allen…I just don’t see it, even if there is a negotiation to a lesser amount (say 15 mil). For this to happen, I believe we would have to have someone significant in line that proves our program is on the up quickly…maybe an Urban Meyer.

Agreed…but mainly because the program will have nowhere to go but up by the time the move is made.

I believe he will be gone if things don't improve. Not even iu football would hang on and continue with these results. If we can get a couple wins or beat purdue possibly he hangs on. Right now though it looks like his time is running out.

I agree 100%. The defense has sucked for a while. The CTA era has run it's course. Regardless if they buy him out now or later, this ship has sailed. No offense, no defense. No chance to win as is.

Learned years ago that never say that it can go nowhere but up.  After all it is IU football

Not sure we win another game. Outscored 119-27 in big ten play this year. We’re a JV team

I would have preferred to have worked out the issues with Coach Wilson and kept CTA on as defensive coordinator. Wilson's teams were fun to watch offensively. Not sure where we go from here but this is some of the worst football I have seen in a long time, and that's saying something. When we move on, rebuilding this mess is going to take a bit.

Completely agree. Wilson had us going in the right direction and had a lot of support from a majority of our players.
