Where does IU Football go from here

Sure. Then tell me why we have rankings during the season. For any college sport? If we go by your criteria.

I will wait.

Preseason rankings are nothing more than guesses about which teams are good and which teams aren’t. Penn State entered last season ranked #8 in the country. The voters thought they were a great team before the season started. They showed during the season that they weren’t. You’re trying to use rankings as proof that we beat good teams last year while ignoring that those ranked teams showed during the season that they weren’t actually good. If rankings were this foolproof measure of greatness then we wouldn’t even need to play the games. Just give the higher ranked team the win. Penn State was 0-0 when we played them last year. Michigan was 1-1. They were ranked because of their names, not because of anything they had done on the field during the season.

We returned 19 starters…….and we are the worst team in the league in a normal year with no distractions……you can’t base anything off last year.

And how many of those 19 has played  in every game this year. We are actually down to the 4th QB and today was down to our 5th running back. Our two nest DB's had not been healthy for the last 6 games.

Again I am not happy at this year at all but saying Allan should be fired is just very stupid.

You don’t pay attention. I’ve said from the beginning Allen would be here 2 more years

No one has said in this thread that Allen should be fired after this season (though most of our assistants should be). However, he can’t live off last season forever. This year, imo, cancels out the good built from last year. This year has been every bit as bad as last year was good. Now we see what he can do moving forward.

We aren’t just missing a bowl this season. We are the worst team in the league. A veteran team. It would be a miracle just to get back to .500 next year.

I just think the lack of offense had finally caught up with the defense.  Early on I thought they played well enough and we should have beaten UC and MSU.  If we can bring in a good OC and oline coach then I think we can be competitive.  We need McCulley to step up and be a good QB or hope our freshman QB on this class can come in and play.  For us to get back to being competitive we need an overhaul in the oline.

I personally think this team has a lot of talent coming back next year possibly including McFadden once he realizes he doesn’t have the speed/pass coverage skills to play LB in the league. Match that with the freshman class (assuming they don’t defect by signing day), the tools are there.  Tom Allen has to get rid of Hiller, Warren and probably Sheridan but that an absolute overhaul so hopefully it’s the Hiller/Sheridan and he takes a bigger role on defensive schemes/takes over play calling if need be. The staff is the problem and if Allen can’t recognize that it’ll be his head as soon as the buyout gets affordable

Probably Sheridan?!?!? In what universe should Sheridan return next year?

I bet money Penix gets well in the off season, gets all the first team snaps in practice then goes down again in the first 2-3 games of next season.

I feel like if he wants to keep playing it will be elsewhere

On the flip side, why play the season out? If the rankings are what they are, why re-rank when the games are played and we find out if a team is worth its rank? Reality can cover a wide range of things. Reality #1 is we had an incredible season last year and beat teams IU football never beats and we should all be grateful for that. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Reality is also that our wins vs. ranked teams were not great wins b/c those teams weren’t actually worthy of being ranked as was proved as the season played out. If those wins were great wins we’d have been an absolute lock for a NY6 bowl. Yet in the context of IU football, really good wins. Both, or all…I can’t remember how many (excellent) points I’ve made here…can be true.

I don’t know the answer to the question in this thread and I’m so much more of a hoops fan that I don’t even know if I’m qualified whatsoever.  From a student perspective and from just what I hear from other students I will say this.  Last year might as well never happened.

Students are not ignorant.  We hear a lot of voices complain about students not going into the stadium.  We hear other voices complain that students check out early in the first half and need to stay the whole game.  So what did we do?  We showed up.  We were loud for the UC game.  We stayed.  We lost.  We were told this year was going to be different.  Some said we were a football school now.  We were told a lot of things but any momentum we had from last year is lost and I don’t know if that’s something that we can ever get back.

LEO is cute.  CTA is Tom Crean 2.0 with less results.  He cares.  He wants to be here.  He has great passion.  That’s great and all but it’s not winning games.  Their appears to be zero accountability but we will always LEO.  The general consensus is this.  He had his shot this year.  It was all right there for him and this program. That’s all gone now.  It’s not coming back.

It turns out our QB is not so Superman.  Our self appointed superstar WR did a lot of talking during the off-season about being the GOAT.  LOLX10.  He is still out there though getting abused by defenses every week.

Me personally, I have went to every tailgate this season until today.  It was a little cold and it looked like rain/snow and I have had the sniffles and was at the basketball game last night and had some school work to catch up on.  We had the game on and just a small group over watching.  I didn’t really watch but a couple guys that were over were just really upset saying that we quit.  But CTA and LEO will be there tomorrow and nothing will change.  The students will continue to get criticized from the same voices  for just going to party and not staying the whole game.  It was all right there for them and it’s not coming back.

I really can't believe anyone took the "football school" comments seriously. That was always a light-hearted joke and a way to cope with the annual failure known as our basketball program. IU will never be considered a football school in our lifetimes, if ever.

Maybe the worst P5 school in the D1

It’s now down to us, Duke and Vandy as the last P5 team w/o a conference win. We’d beat vandy 3-2 on a Chucky Camps FG as time expired but I’m not sure about Duke.

At least Duke beat NW

Let’s see you run an offense with a rusty QB then a backup QB then a true freshQB with zero reps. I’m not saying he’s done a good job but under the circumstances and with Hiller being this inept, I can see Allen giving him a one year pass….but maybe you, who’s never played the game, been armchair QBing you’re entire life has the answer? Go ahead, give it to me….
