IUc2016 Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Well, could our all time leading scorer be the one that leads us back to the glory days? Apparently there’s “chatter” that calbert could be the next coach. coonhounds 1
Hoosierfan222 Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Cheaney could be a great hire..... or an absolute disaster. How do you really know with him? Evariste Galois, Stuhoo and bigrod 3

Hoosierfan222 Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 For the record if we hire Cheaney we’re basically trying to capture the Juwan Howard effect in a bottle.... Maybe it works and maybe it doesn’t. I can’t see Dolson taking that risk but who knows, maybe he blew him away in an interview.
Josh Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Please no. Four years ago the only hire I absolutely did not want was Archie Miller. This time it's Calbert Cheaney or Steve Alford. Which means it'll probably be one of those two. IUc2016 and Stuhoo 2

Juwan was a finalist for NBA coaching jobs. Kids know Juwan from the Fab 5 and playing in the NBA for 20 years. No one knows Calbert. He's never been as close to a head coaching job as Juwan was. Juwan probably would've gotten a head coaching job this year in the NBA. Calbert isn't a candidate if he didn't go to IU. Alford Bailey 1
tyappleg Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 No doubt it would be an awesome story if he came here and was successful. I'd love that. But it's a huge gamble. If we're going to gamble on an IU guy, I think the better odds are with Fife or Lewis personally.

P92 Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Calbert sure couldn’t help IU beat that zone in 2012 when he was on Crean’s staff.
madmax Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 I just don't understand these IU names. It's been said a bazillion times, but if he was an alumnus from another university, would we really want him to come coach here? The answer is a resounding NO. Nothing against Calbert or any other former player, but there is no way Scott Dolson is hiring someone with a resume like this just because of a tie to the university. Hardwood83 and IUc2016 2

We swung and missed on perhaps the one candidate that would unite the fanbase and now it feels like our wheels our spinning. But I don't think the wheels are really just spinning. I think Dolson is running a really quiet, leak free hiring process that is creating a void of information. This void is being filled by speculation and rumors. I mean in just like the last 24 hours its been stated that Thad Matta was offered the job but couldn't pass a physical, Woodson is the leading candidate, etc etc. Everyone needs to just chill out and let SD do his thing. He has never burned us before-we need to at least give him a chance with this one before we automatically assume the world is crumbling. But it would unite the fan base! LOL ... What nobody considers is what difference does it make if the fan base is united behind a guy if he can't win. What if we hired Calbert -- who has never been a head coach at any level -- and he goes 11-21 in his first season and 13-20 in his second? How united will the fan base be at that point? madmax 1

It was stated his name is being talked about on peegs as someone who is garnering some chatter. IU - Kaulie Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 I think it’s been said he (and his wife) would have zero interest so it’s a moot point.
