Arkansas guard Boogie Fland is expected to enter the transfer portal, source told @TheFieldOf68. Fland declared for the NBA Draft, but isn't a lock to go in the first round - and can likely make more money next season returning to college.

And that's just crap that this is what NIL has led to.

Another way of looking at it?

These kids may get a college degree and have more maturity before leaving because of the financial inducement to stay in college longer

I was trying to figure out where college becomes more appealing in terms of money, and I believe for 2nd rounders that aren’t confident they can get guaranteed deals (so they get stuck with a two way deal where they can be sent to the G-League), college hoops is often a better option.  Heck, with the rev share kicking up college values, if you aren’t a first rounder college is probably your best bet.

TJD managed to get a guaranteed deal in the second round and that was huge for him.

For a high profile enough kid, would think the crossover point may even hit as early as the late-teens. I think Kel’el Ware is making something like 4mil this year as the 15th pick and Rob Wright is supposedly getting 3.5 mil from BYU.

Fland is absolutely going in the 1st round. The real question is whether it’s worth it to kids like him to bump their 2nd contract out another year.

Yea.  One more thing to factor in is Kel'el got two years guaranteed for $9.5M, which is tough for college to match, and he can probably get a few sponsor deals on top of that.  But I agree, I think late first rounders have to look hard at college now.  Wild.

@Demo, just curious, what are your thoughts on Baba Miller? Originally from Spain, seems highly skilled and very athletic and yet has underperformed  for 2 years at FSU and one year at FAU. Could Coach Devries unlock the potential or is he too me first and not worth taking a chance. I respect your talent evaluation skills. @Demo

People have been whining for years that the talent in college basketball wasn't what it used to be since any player who's good enough leaves early (as they should). I called it when NIL was first announced that some talent (2nd round/late 1st round) would stay in college because they'd make as much or more by doing so. That's what we're seeing. I don't see it as a bad thing.

From what I vaguely recall of him at FSU, didn’t watch FAU last year that I remember., he had loud tools across the board and he competed hard, but he had 2 things holding him back: 1) he’s both thin and high cut and he really struggled with physicality. He didn’t really shy from contact, he just had strength and leverage problems that hindered him as a rebounder and he tended to float to the perimeter on offense,. Based on his frame I think that’s something you’re just living with. 2) he didn’t appear to be.a very instinctive kid. There was a lot of “see it, process it, do it” in his game that really mitigated his defensive presence, which should be massive. But when you have flashes like that and you play hard I imagine someone will pay him pretty good and he’ll help.

It’s also future earning potential. If you’re confident in your ability to play at that level I think there is some draw. KW isn’t making much more than he probably could have gotten from some blue blood, but wouldn’t have likely played himself into a better draft pick and still would need to prove himself somewhat. He is now a year ahead and closer to an absolutely monster deal when he hits free agency after what he has shown. I think you are right that top-20 or so may be the cutoff under this CBA.

Baba Miller -  Clearly not a physically imposing player
