Governor's Cup: IU vs PUke

I know there are not a lot that enjoy this competition, but I've always loved the "less mainstream" sports and am thrilled we're knocking out Purdue in those!!

We already clinched the win for this season but added some icing to the cake at the B1G outdoor track and field championship.

It came down to the 4x400 relay for both Cup points but IU sweeps the points in Outdoor Track and Field winning 29 to the Boilermakers 22 on the Men's side and 12 to Purdue's 11 on the Women's side. Final Cup standings: Indiana 13, Purdue 7.

After women's soccer, the competition's first event, we're tied.  Next event is volleyball on the 16th which will be played in Indianapolis.

I really wish the Governor’s Cup was elevated to a point where more than 100 people know what it represents!

Is there even a trophy that gets exchanged for it?  If not that’s the first step.  If we have it put it in the union and talk about it on campus tours

Problem with that is there is no exchange. We have had it since 2019 and aren't giving it back anytime soon!

Toiletmakers pick up a half point last night in volleyball.  Next event is the B1G men's and women's XC meet on the 31st in East Lansing.  My grandson ran the course 3 years ago competing for DePauw.  Run on a golf course with really great viewing opportunities for spectators.

B1G conference XC championship held earlier today in East Lansing, MI.  PUke women 6th - IU women 12th.  IU men 11th - PUke men 17th.  Each school picks up a full point and after 4 competitions, PUke leads 2.0 - 1.5.

Next up is football on Nov. 28th and a volleyball re-match on the 29th.

So long as Frankenstein's monster winning the Wooden was only worth a point or two a couple years ago.

IU men's and women's swimming and diving squads crushed PUke and pick up 2 full points in the Governor's Cup competition and we now have a 4.5 to 2.5 lead.  Really hoping our bball teams don't let us down this week with a half a point on the line for each team this week.

They should make it to where winning a NC adds 5 points.

Big win today for the women's program in many different ways but it also picks up a half point in the GC competition and insures that even if the men can't win at Mackey, PUke won't have gained any advantage in the basketball portion of the competition.  The way both our men's and women's programs had been performing, I thought we could lose 2 full points to the Toiletmakers and as it turns out that ain't gonna happen.  After today's win by IUWBB we lead 5.5 to 3.0.  Next up is wrestling and IUBB both events taking place on Feb. 20.

IUBB cost us a .5 point but our grapplers got us a full point so with the seasons winding down we hold a 6.5 to 3.5 lead.

After the B1G Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, we lead 7.5 to 4.5  PUke men beat our men and our women beat the PUke women so we each earned a full point.  Next up is women's tennis on March 7.
