So that would be phenomenal news if they are at 13 unless he is paying his own way for spring semester. Not necessarily expensive either so it’s not out of the question if he takes 2 or 3 classes. I think the one thing I am holding out hope for is this seems to be a straight business decision at all levels. Things with the Rona have definitely changed his timeline and we were the first team where it was acknowledged we want him here this year or next. Most teams don’t have that luxury of open scholarships. I would gladly trade one year of Justin Smith for 1.5 years of Aminu. I also hope I am not just talking myself into nonexistent hope. Stuhoo Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Whaddya wanna bet one of these naughty players mutually agrees with CTC to have his scholarship rescinded: “Crean wouldn’t say if graduate transfer Justin Kier and three other unnamed basketball players who were with him during an Oct. 9 arrest that included serious traffic violations and the admission of marijuana use would be suspended for any of the Bulldogs' early games.” Quote
HinnyHoosier Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 Archie Miller losing a 5 star recruit to Tom Crean is NOT what this board needs right now. Those of us that can handle reality will be fine if that does indeed happen with this recruitment. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app johnsoniu, mdn82, thebigweave and 3 others 6 Quote

Is it their 50th violation and they have a relative that is important or is it an expendable player that could be immediately upgraded with Aminu? Class of '66 Old Fart Posted November 24, 2020 Author Posted November 24, 2020 Springfield (MO) News-Leader: Aminu Mohammed's time in Springfield is nearing its end. The five-star basketball prospect will make a commitment to a college within the next few weeks and will likely enroll in college in early January, his guardian, Shawn Harmon, told the News-Leader on Tuesday afternoon. Harmon said Mohammed will likely start the season at Greenwood before departing for college in early January. Harmon said Mohammed's commitment will likely be announced through a national media outlet. More:Inside look at Aminu Mohammed's college options entering the 5-star prospect's senior year Mohammed is going into his senior year, his third with the Greenwood program. He is the No. 11 player in the Class of 2021, according to ESPN, and is one of the best prospects in the country who still hasn't picked out a college program. Mohammed's coming off a junior season that saw him average 30 points and 15.7 rebounds per game. With him leading the way, the Blue Jays were expected to contend for their second state title in three seasons. Mohammed will go down as one of the area's all-time greats. At Greenwood, Mohammed has led the program to a state title in 2019 and its first Blue and Gold Tournament title later in the year. Stuhoo and WayneFleekHoosier 1 1 Quote

mdn82 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I will be the first to put it out there like this. I would currently be surprised if he doesn’t come here based on who his teams are, and what’s available. This dude is a difference maker for 1.5 years. Essentially Lander at the 2/3 from a skill level expectancy. That said even if we get a commit from him which would be absolutely huge, I still feel this recruiting cycle is potentially a letdown if we aren’t able to get one or two more players in the spring cycle. This year more than any it’s possible. But it really starts with Aminu. Unfortunately we are at a point where we really need to stock skill and he is most definitely our best option. Really feel our depth quality hurt us more than we will ever know in this cycle. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 I have always loved his game. Would be thrilled for him to be a Hoosier. Always a spot for that kind of talent. If we start going more to 3 guard sets on the regular, plenty of opportunity to carve out a niche. I think he can hold the 3 spot in a 3 guard set very well if need be. cthomas Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 So, if he commits he would begin practice and be eligible to play immediately? No matter the talent, that seems like quite a challenging proposition for everyone involved. Quote
Demo Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Would be an interesting dynamic to watch. A kid showing up mid season and learning the off and def concepts on the fly. Can’t really think of a circumstance quite like it. Normally I’d think a kid like that would have no chance to really contribute, particularly when the roster has some depth on the wing. But, with all due deference to the Sam Story’s of the world, Mohammed’s just flat better than those kids. Eventually, talent wins out. Quote

For me, there's two players who could lose minutes to Aminu in February/March/April: Trey Galloway and Armaan Franklin. Just thinking that the level of conditioning for Aminu to be effective makes it a high goal to contribute in the 20/21 season. Who do you think, taking everything into account, would contribute more to our winning games in Feb/March/April; a second semester sophomore Armaan Franklin, or a one month with the team Aminu Mohammed? Popular Post LamarCheeks Posted November 24, 2020 Popular Post Posted November 24, 2020 Found this from an old SI.com story on Mohammed. According to this, he could NOT play this season -- which I thought was the case. He'd just be enrolling early. Not sure why he (or anybody) would cut their senior season short if they couldn't play until next fall, but that's apparently something that interests him. I read that he's a pretty good student, so maybe he actually wants to get a jump-start on a degree, then leave early if he's deemed good enough for the NBA??? Only he knows for sure ... Could he play this season? No, Mohammed wouldn't be eligible to play for Indiana or any other school during the 2020-21 season. He is not reclassifying to the class of 2020 like Khristian Lander did. He is still a 2021 recruit, but he would just be enrolling early. This happens a lot with football players. Take last season, for example, a number of 2020 recruits enrolled early on Indiana's football team. Even though the football team had played a majority of its games already in 2019, they still had the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2, 2020. So, the players that enrolled early got to participate in some of the Gator Bowl practices, but they weren't actually eligible to play in the game. This would be the case for Mohammed. He would be able to practice with Indiana's team throughout most of the Big Ten season, but he wouldn't be able to play in any games. It would help him get acclimated to college faster and would only help him become more prepared for the 2021-22 season. Well if that's the case our current glut of players at the 2/3 might be a plus for him--battling in practice with Al, Trey, and Armaan. Then, he could easily envision himself stepping into Al's minutes the next season. Or, he can play for Crean and get 25 shots a game promised to him. ;) NRT137 1 Quote

According to that same story (I'll link to it below), a school has to have a scholly open now if he wants to enroll early and accept a scholarship. Georgetown and Georgia -- on his list -- are currently at their limit. Then again, we know Crean isn't shy about giving someone the boot to clear space! Doing so at mid-semester would be a really bad optic, however. https://www.si.com/college/indiana/recruiting/aminu-mohammed-early-enrollment-indiana-basketball-recruiting Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
