Class of '66 Old Fart Posted July 14, 2019 Author Posted July 14, 2019 From Exposure Sports talking about the Indiana Elite vs Atlanta Celtics semifinal game. The 17U matchup between Indiana Elite (IN) and the Atlanta Celtics (GA) was arguably the best matchup of the day here on day three. This was an elite 8 matchup between two of Adidas best grassroots programs. The Celtics held the momentum going into the half and were up by 12. In the second half, Indiana Elite guards 2021 PG Khristian Lander and 2020 SG Trey Galloway took over. Indiana Elite came on strong in the second half and took the lead at the midway point. This matchup bought a point guard battle between Lander and 2020 PG Deivon Smith of the Atlanta Celtics (GA). The Celtics eventually won the back-and-forth affair in overtime 59-55. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted July 14, 2019 Author Posted July 14, 2019 (edited) Congratulations to the G3 Grind 16U who won the Under Armour open division championship with a 63-54 win over Team Charlotte. They went 6-2 over this final weekend. Waiting (hopefully) for the box score to be corrected. At the current time, no kid on either team missed a single shot! lol Apparently Kooper Jacobi did not play in the championship game so if anyone out there can shed any light on this development please let us know. I did note that in their morning game Jacobi played just 15 minutes after averaging 26/game throughout the AAU season. UPDATE: Learned Jacobi injured an ankle in the team's semifinal game this morning. Edited July 14, 2019 by Class of '66 Old Fart Jacobi injury update SlamaJamaSisley and HoosierAloha 2 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted July 15, 2019 Author Posted July 15, 2019 Remains to be seen if anything further develops from IU, but Curbelo was a new name that popped up this past weekend. This summary is from Evan Daniels. [Attends Long Island Lutheran HS which was Devonte Green's high school] Andre Curbelo, PG, NY Jayhawks There might not be a more impressive passer in the class of 2020 than Curbelo. The native of Puerto Rico simply sees things on the court that most point guards don't, and then not only does he see things, but he is also able to make the pass. Curbelo isn't an elite athlete with elite burst, but he does have a major ability to get into the lane, and he is so adept at changing speeds that he keeps defenders off balance. He shoots it well enough to keep people honest, but it is his feel for the game and playmaking ability that stand out at the highest level. Curbelo is one of the more mature floor generals, and someone who should be a staple in a college backcourt for a long time to come. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted July 18, 2019 Author Posted July 18, 2019 The NCAA College Basketball Academies spawned by the Rice Commission will start next week at 4 regional sites. The nearest for Indiana kids is at the University of Illinois campus. There will be two sessions at each regional site, with each session hosting up to 300 prospective student-athletes. The first session runs July 22-25 and the second July 25-28. To be considered for the camp, student-athletes had to have registered through the NCAA Eligibility Center by May 5. The prospective student-athlete had to nominate himself, not a coach. Tentative rosters for the Illinois sessions: https://www.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/public/files/TENTATIVE - Illinois Session I as of 7.17.19.pdf https://www.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/public/files/TENTATIVE - Illinois Session II as of 7.17.19.pdf These events will take place within an NCAA designated Evaluation Period which means coaches may watch but may not have any in-person contact. Stuhoo Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Wow Leal & Galloway were on point again today. I’m guessing the competition wasn’t super high end, but still. Alford Bailey and Last12! 2 Quote
Uspshoosier Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Wow Leal & Galloway were on point again today. I’m guessing the competition wasn’t super high end, but still. Games last night against 2 top 40 guys and today played against Isael Silva (pg) top 40. They destroyed Compton Magic which is usually a successful AAU program Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app JaybobHoosier, mdn82, Class of '66 Old Fart and 1 other 4 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted July 21, 2019 Author Posted July 21, 2019 He doesn't have an IU offer and maybe won't ever get one, but his name surfaced a week ago that we were watching him and his performance at this weekend's Adidas event didn't hurt his standing. Exposure Sports commentary on top performers at the Adidas Gauntlet Finale - 2020 PG Andre Curbelo - NY Jayhawks (NY) Curbelo could be put in either category for this one. He has had himself a stock rising type of grassroots season and was one of the top performers throughout the Adidas Gauntlet. He is one of the top playmaking point guards in the country and proved that once again this weekend in Southern Cal. Curbelo plays his own game at his position. He holds great passing instincts, extremely fundamental, and is always able to make his way inside an opponents defense. His play led the NY Jayhawks to the semifinal round in Ladera Ranch. And this from Eric Bossi - There weren't many duos more fun to watch than the New York Jayhawks point guard Andre Curbelo and power forward Zed Key, who powered all the way to the semis where they lost a tough one to Clark and the Compton Magic. Curbelo is a pure leader on the floor and does whatever the game dictates. When he needs to score he scores, when he needs to distribute he does. HoosierAloha 1 Quote

Ok, maybe not sight unseen, but that is pretty much a perfect PG description. Quote
