TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts
We can talk Tom Crean until we're blue in the face (and that's exactly what we've done) but he won't be fired this season.
Lol exactly. This thread is getting tiresome. He's probably farther away from getting fired than any of us even realize.

Agreed. Maybe next season, but I wouldn't even count on that.

I like this thread because the crean supporters come here and haha at the fire train when we win and the fire train comes here and ha has at the supporters after a loss so it's like a never ending cycle

Yeah, I am about ready to start a poll lol.  Seems like the best way to resolve this.

Crean obviously doesn't win enough or win big enough. I bet I know who wins this argument. And they didn't participate in the game thread tonight.

Why not?

I just don't see why one group didn't participate in a game thread.  As long as you don't act like an ass and can play with the rules, you should come on the game thread.  If you can't get your point across during a game without acting like a jackass you shouldn't be on there.  If you can't make it through a game without saying xxxx player or coach is an idiot (because it is personal), you shouldn't be on there.  If you said, "I don't understand why xxxx player or coach did…" then you are fine.  I am going to take that as you saying you don't think a group of people can play by the rules.  If that is the case they shouldn't be on during the game.  We value everyone who participates in any thread, but this us vs. them attitude is getting to be complete bullshit.  I graduated from IU.  I live and breath that damn school.  We are all here for the same damn reason.  It is sad that a group of grown ass men can't hold a conversation without being butthurt at someone not holding their opinion on a subject.  Heaven forbid we disagree on the internet.  There is no right or wrong in this.  I wish people would realize that.  If Crean gets fired in 3 years, who is right?  I can sling shit at a wall and see if it sticks too.  After 5 years of him not being fired are the people saying he will be fired wrong?  Or do they keep on saying it will happen at any time?  Seriously, this is the one thread that could be open for years.  I hope we are able to keep it open until he does get fired so we can look back at some of the ridiculous "absolutes" throughout here.  I love you guys, but you can really kill a good buzz.

^^^^ I am sure I will piss some people off with that.  Sorry if I offended anyone.  I just want people to act like adults.  I really don't want to have to deal with this "I told you so" crap from either side anymore.  Neither side is right at this point.  Neither side will ever truly know how much goes into a decision such as this.  His basketball coaching abilities at this point aren't everything to the university.  If people quit donating at record numbers, then his in game coaching will be a problem.

I have to chyme in here...

I love the folks that say this season is worse than any of Crean's first 3 years.

I absolutely have to laugh at that, because those first three years victories were something ridiculous like 6,10, and 12...

yes there have been frustrations with this team, but I remember when we were dead last in the B1G 3 years in a row...

this year ain't nothing like those years...

as a matter of fact...lest anyone forget...

the pinnacle of frustration at IU was just a couple of years ago when

IU finished dead last in basketball and football 2 years in a row...

and if memory serves me correctly...IU is the only team in the B1G to accomplish such a feat...

It is the same that it has always been.  I started posting on sports message boards in 1995 or 1996...the original IndyStar boards did not even require registration, anyone could post under any name they saw fit for any given post.  RMK fan versus anti-RMK fan was very much a thing at that time leading up to Bobby's firing.  Of course the dynamic was different, obviously RMK had an established track record.  But the anti-RMK sentiment was based on the game passing him by and the time being right for a chance.

During the Mike Davis era/fiasco, whichever description you prefer, you had the dynamic of people who would defend the existing coach to death versus those who did not buy in.  Although honestly a lot of the MD debate in his early days revolved around RMK loyalists against people who wanted to give the new coach a chance.

One of the unfortunate side affects of the Internet in general is that people start to take their own opinion too seriously and they start rooting for their own opinion just to have the chance to tell the other guy/gal that hey, I called it and in your face!  I'm right and you are wrong!  Even if we root for the same freaking team!  But...it is the way it has been for a long time.  The advent of the Tom Crean era at IU did not start the trend, it simply is the way the internet works.

If you look back at Crean's entire tenure at IU, this is the first disappointing regular season he's had. Everything else he met my expectations or surpassed them.

This year I predicted us at 20-10 with a 7-10 ranking in the tournament. I knew how young this team was and how difficult it was going to be to lose 4 YEAR STARTERS in Hulls and Watford. One could argue their leadership and drive were just as big of losses as Cody & VO's talent.

I'm disappointed that we aren't going to the Big Dance. But it isn't shocking given the make up of out league and roster. Sit back, hope we make a respectable run in the NIT and then shift focus over to next year. I'm very excited to see what our Freshman do over their first real summer in Bloomington. We could be pretty damn good next year with out even taking into account the newbies.

This is going to be the norm in college basketball. It is hard to lose 4 starters from a really good team and reload in a season. We could have had victor and Cody still this year and we roll over everybody. But they left. Look at Kentucky. They have the greatest recruiting class "in history" and they are limping along. Experience is the name of the game and it is harder and harder to keep great placers long enough to get that experience.

Please Please Please get rid of him.  I sure don't want to sit through another season like this again.  At least in the re-building years, we had the future to look forward to.  With Will and probably Noah gone next year, Yogi will probably have to take 50% of the shots and pass the ball even less than he does now.  Might as well put Yogi's name on the back of everybodies jersey.
