He was the one that told everyone the meeting was happening.  So he either really knows (and seems to have a history of being right) or its all BS.

Seems fishy to me as well. What is he buddies with glass or mcrobbie? I cant image more than a few high ranking iu officials would be in this meeting. I also highy doubt they would come out blabbing about it.

Tom Crean, Indiana Head Coach

Resume: Crean's is as impressive--or more--than any on this list. He has been a head coach for 18 years and is averaging right around 20 wins a season. He took Marquette to five tournaments and a Final Four. He has taken Indiana to four tournaments and three Sweet Sixteens. He has a .609 career winning percentage.

Why Crean: He has won at the highest level. He has run two major programs. He is experienced. He could be looking for a way out of Indiana (either by his choice or not) at the end of the season. The situation he took over in Bloomington is about as bad as it can be and he had them in the Sweet Sixteen in year four. He's also recruiting Missouri a lot better than any Mizzou coach in a long time.

Why Not Crean: Is he on the downside of his career? He had a good run at Marquette, but has been inconsistent at Indiana and this is his worst season in the Big Ten since 2010-11. You're buying low if you go with Crean.

he posted that Sunday evening ... Sampson is ONE of his 22 potentials, but I've not heard anyone mention him since.

This is NOT an endorsement of any particular "insider" info, or IN ANY WAY a path toward turning this thread into a political discussion (so please don't),

BUT... if the whole-wide-stinking-world can end up seeing leaked info from:

  • The Clinton campaign's Chief of Staff's emails and
  • Can find out when Jeff Sessions is in a side-bar huddle with the Russian Ambassador...

I'm pretty sure it is in the realm of possibility that it could be leaked when IU is meeting with freaking basketball coach candidates!

We got guys at airports scouting...I guess it's not far off to believe someone can hack an email address or plant a small wire tap on the administration.

Posters have also been accused of being every member of Crean's family and Fred Glass in disguise posting propaganda on the board in support of Crean. BTB is all kinds of sketchy.

We're mostly dealing with speculation, rumors, and opinions - and I think most of us realize that.  We'll likely get little to no advance info when a new coach is named.

That said, even if there was a meeting between IU and BD's representatives, I really really doubt that it would leak out or details of such a meeting would get past the meeting room door.  For word to somehow get out that a currently employed coach was negotiating for another job, it could do irreparable damage to both sides.  That's just my take on it.

Also, negotiations with a NBA coach of a playoff team are fraught with extreme issues as far as timing goes.

Ultimately we'll know when we know.  It'll be one of the 4 or 5 names we've all speculated on - or it won't.  It's just theater for us at this juncture.
