I could see IU trying a smoke screen, but if Glass is trying to use Donovan's name as a misdirection from a lesser candidate then he is not as smart as some give him credit for.  That would be a good way to alienate the fans.

Good point about the conflicting information. I would just assume I guess that with their solid info in the past and perceived closeness to the program that the info between them wouldn't be far off. But you have 2 very credible posters in 0708 and Hickory basically saying complete opposite things, which could support the smokescreen theory

Compared to the size of the overall base, that is a small number.

People can take the rumors they read on these boards and tell people not on the boards.  Poster A sees the threads and sees posters people trusts and tells person B that it's rumored IU is interested in Donovan, person B could tell person C.  People do talk and things can very easily spread.

Brian Snow just tweeted that Missouri has been reaching out to coaches for a month now and that some have already said not interested. Missouri has made no formal announcements and Anderson just made an offer to a kid a week ago. Calm down everyone on the Crean still recruiting and no word being mentioned of him gone yet train. This leaked cause season is over. We should hear a lot more in the coming days.

it's also possible that the Donovan rumors are an "accidental" smokescreen that Glass et al. did not start, but are perfectly willing to let proceed while they go after their "true" candidates. I've been told Glass REALLY thinks highly of Tony Bennett, FWIW.

I think the whole issue is trying to let CTC find a spot so he can 'resign' vs. Fred doing a 'he gone' press conference.  Every day of silence from Glass just makes that clearer and clearer IMO.  All of the various boards are calling for a new coach and even many of  the nationally recognized sportswriters are suggesting it's time for both sides to move on.  If CTC were coming back at the very least Glass would issue a press release to the effect that negotiations for a contract extension were in the works and attempt to stop the rumors.  I also believe there is a date etched in stone for CTC to either have a new job or we get the 'he gone' press conference. Furthermore, I believe that Fred already has the replacement lined up and the new coach will be announced within 48 hours of CTC's resignation or termination.  Is it Donovan?  I have absolutely no idea but if it's not, the news will be tantamount to:

I wouldn't think coaches would have these conversations as they gear up for conference and national tournaments ...

One name that was listed for the Missouri job they had talked to was Cuonzo Martin. They are 19-11 in the Pac 12. It happens.

I'm not confident we'll get who we all think, but I think all of our targets are upgrades over Crean at this point
