TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

The roller coaster ride that the tom crean era has been lol. Think about how ridiculous the ups downs and the potential players we thought we were getting but instead were duds. Losing games we should never lose to winning a couple big games we probably shouldn't have. The movement lol. Tim Priller survives not being creaned while others didn't. Last season was a miracle where it looked certain glass would be forced to fire him but our leading scorer gets injured propelling us on defense to win the big ten but ultimately end in depression like only a crean season can. Hope the ride is almost over

Why do people keep saying this? Are they just that demoralized that nothing happened two years ago?

Like Janitor said. He's graduating players, creating money for the school, has been winning. Coach of the year and the B1G right last season right?

I think Crean has sadly won over Glass too much and quite frankly, he's won over too many Hoosier fans. I think there's too many Hoosier fans who are just fine with 25 wins and a second or third round exit.

Indiana basketball is turning into West Virginia Basketball. We don't want that.

Glass inquired about multiple coaches in the weeks leading up to Bryant's commitment. Bryant committed about a week after Glass announced Crean was staying. The thought process was that since Crean still had 5 seasons left on his contract, a move didn't have to be made just yet, and with the addition of Bryant plus Yogi and Troy staying, the team would contend the following year.

Its s flawed thought process. All it did was drag the pain on even longer.

You got it as long as seats are full and schools making money thats all they care about. As i have said the only way crean leaves is on his own. We are stuck with him period. Glass simply will not fire him and all of freds competing for national title talk is complete bs. Its just words.

I strongly disagree that he's won over too many fans. If anything, I think he's driven away more fans than he's brought back or created. A segment of this fanbase has been lost during his tenure and may be gone for good. These people sat through the Mike Davis years, the Kelvin Sampson debacle and Crean's rebuild, and after three coaches that failed to survive here, many of them have finally given up. They don't support this program anymore because it's not what they grew up with. Losing at home to Northwestern or Penn State wasn't even discussed. Losing 16 out of 18 to Wisconsin? Inconceivable. The teams were always good, they always got better as the year went on, and they felt they could hang with anyone because the man in charge would find a way. Obviously, times have changed, and we aren't going to win 30 straight over Wisconsin or any team ever again. But other bluebloods have adapted to the current landscape, while we don't really seem to know what to do or how to do it. This program used to strike fear into its opponents, and that's what people miss. And it's been so long since that was the case, that people have essentially given up on it.

Glass is smart enough to know about this part of the fanbase, much like Donald Trump was aware of the American voters who felt like they'd been forgotten. That's why I believe that when the opportunity is there, Glass will take the appropriate action, and Crean will accept it, because he won't want to continue working in a place he'll never be fully accepted.

There is 3.5 millions he would stay. Who in the world would be crazy and dumb enough to pay him what fred gave him? He isnt worth half of that.

That team had 2, Vonleh and Yogi.  And they managed to not even make the NIT.

Troy Williams was a Jordan Brand All American which had basically everyone from the McDAA game. If you make that game you are McD's quality. Sam Decker missed the McD's game but made the Jordan game.

Seats aren't full and attendance isn't where the money comes from for IU. It's boosters. When he says alum are stirring it means money is talking.

Guys, end of the day, regardless of when Crean leaves, he'll have done an incredible service to the program, solidified a fanbase on the edge and sick of dirty players and coaches, and set up the next coach to take IU back to where the fans want it. The guy will have earned every million paid, and a standing ovation on his way out.

I pay less attention to the Jordan Brand game than I do the McD's game, and I pay next to none to the latter.

Stick with 2.  Saying Crean somehow missed the NIT with 3 AAs makes it even worse for him.

I wonder who is applying the pressure. At one point Janitor says Crean is in deep with the right people then a few days (and another loss) later alums are applying pressure now.

So does Creans support level sustain him vs this pressure or has his support already begun to turn.

If Glass feels the pressure of losing that money he will make a move. He isn't tied to the hip with Crean. He didn't hire him. His extension was due to getting us out of the hole we were in and landing Cody Zeller. That was proven to not be the norm. I will be curious to see how this year plays out. I have felt next year was the year a move was made one way or another. But this team is going to force the boosters into wanting Glass to make a move this year. He isn't going to extend a coach with the projection this team has, and then next years team.

With the way this roller coaster has gone during this era, it wouldn't surprise if the last hill of the roller coaster will be a 10 seed run to the final 4 like Syracuse last year and keeping this ride going a little longer Lol

No clue, but when our team went to **** when Yogi was a Soph and Vonleh was here, the Janitor never wavered Crean would be back in March and April. We never got this much out of him in 2013-14. Would be curious to hear what Pap is hearing to see if it jives.

I have always enjoyed his stuff and believe he is inside somehow but I can never tell if he is proCrean or not. The early stuff from him that I remembered came post Cody/Vic and outlined some culture issues and seemed to place blame on Crean. Then a couple years later we are winning and he seems back on board with Crean. I can relate, but have always wondered if I was misunderstanding some of his posts since I could not get a consistent read on him.
