TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

I don't want to derail the De'Ron Davis thread or that of Curtis Jones either, where optimism is high, and rightfully so, about what they can bring to our team next season.  BUT, I hope many of you are keeping in mind that if CTC is not the IU basketball coach next year that it's possible neither will be wearing candystripes in Assembly Hall.  I want to see Glass make a change.  However, in this day and age, the next coach could be facing every bit of a roster makeover as did CTC when he took over in terms of numbers (emphasis on number not quality) of players that leave the program for whatever reason.  Now, should a certain coach presently affiliated with the Boston Celtics land our job, that makeover would likely be far less traumatic.

I know we could lose players, it also will not be the deciding factor for me.  We've gone down that road before with Mike Davis, and I'd rather not do that again.

Davis' commitment had everything to do with Crean so, in the scenario that Crean is let go/moves on, I would be most concern with that one. Cujo I guess idk. Gelon seems to be IU

My post wasn't as clear as it should have been.  I was only trying to point out that we're not going to necessarily have our cake and eat it too.

cant worry about losing a few recruits or players. The new coach could easily bring in his own that fit his system better, so we could have our cake and eat it too as you say

@Janitorinthegym: @Poppadontpreach the writing is on the wall.. The whole coaching staff is angry all the time.. That explosion after a win .. Topped it off

Granted Janitor thought Crean was gone last year too, and was singing this year's teams praises in the offseason.

A lot of people were singing this team's praises. Then Maui started and this team stopped playing defense.

The defense wasn't that good before Maui. The level of competition just wasn't that good and we didn't get exposed.

I don't care which players or recruits we lose, I want Crean gone. Like yesterday. I can't stand to watch this cr*p that IUBB has become. Matt Freaking Painter is a better coach than Crean. That hurts.

Matt Paintwr is a better coach than a lot of people

They weren't very good before but at least it looked like they were trying. Then once the competition increased the defensive effort decreased.

The Most Underachieving College Basketball Teams so Far in 2015-16

Indiana Hoosiers
What we expected: A difference-making freshman post player

What we're getting: No defense to be found

If we only look at defensive rating from one year to the next, then Indiana is actually twice as good at this point compared to the 2014-15 season.

The Hoosiers check in at 106th, compared to No. 214 a year ago.

But it continues to be a scary team to consider, one that can seemingly score at will but also not stop anyone. It is as if Tom Crean's team plays by NBA All-Star Game rules.

B/R's C.J. Moore lit into IU after the Duke game, the latest example of a program that can't (or doesn't seem to want to) stop anyone:

"This is what year eight of the Tom Crean experience has turned into. One big joke," Moore wrote. "Check Twitter during an IU basketball game and you'll find the angry epilogue of the Crean era."

We knew Crean was on the hot seat. But a program that returned Yogi Ferrell and James Blackmon Jr. just seemed to be a little defense away from job security and an NCAA tournament bid.

But the Hoosiers made Wake Forest and UNLV out to be better than they are, then gave up about 1.5 points per possession at Duke, including a career high to a very-struggling Brandon Ingram. That's the most efficient the Blue Devils have been in a game in the last 15 years, according to Ken Pomeroy's data. Moore also noted it was the highest mark the Hoosiers have ever allowed in the Crean era.

Freshman Thomas Bryant was hardly a factor, though he does play hard and showed emotion (frustration) at the team's soggy defense that night. He was supposed to be the difference maker as an interior presence at both ends of the floor. The puzzle isn't solved yet in Bloomington.

The game against Notre Dame on Dec. 19 could be a huge swing for Indiana's at large-bid hopes come March. But for now, we're leaning on IU not meeting the expectations of an improved defense making the offense look that much better.

THE most underachieving? Wow! Is that right? There is no other team and coach underachieving more than ours? Is that a three year average? I think we would win that too

In his defense, it's a Bleacher Report article that listed 10 teams who are underachieving right now. Kentucky, Syracuse, Wisconsin also on there to name a few

Lsu and California would be 2 teams that I feel are underachieving just as much as iu this year
