Recommended Posts

If you have not listened to this podcast here is the link

He really gives this fan base a reality check if you haven't gotten it already it's only a 30 minute interview but it's really thought provoking..

I really hope to hear some thoughts on this

I may listen.... But I have not bought or read an indy star sports segment because of his awful journalism towards he end of November and beginning of December. He lost all respect after his purdue piece and then he continued to troll the players on the team on Twitter. Very very disrespectful

Great post...should probably be moved to The Fire Crean thread for its highest relevancy.

Hahah it's not all about firing Tom Crean. He gives break downs on a lot of the players and where he thinks they are. Breaks down Thomas Bryant and James Blackmon.

True; I have a distant memory of Doyle taking unwarranted shots at Joani Crean...not okay.

On the other hand, much like Dakich, Doyle is now a proponent of the theory that Crean has evolved and is good at his job.

I will try to listen to it all the way through, but I don't care for Doyel never really have liked his journalism. Honestly though I do not think that he understands Hoosier Basketball. He is a Hawaii Born, Florida Gator educated journalist. He has no ties to Indiana what so ever other than his job at the Indy star for the last 3 years.

I am about halfway through it I am glad that he apologized to Crean for his column that he wrote less than a week or two after starting his job. He has talked about how Crean has developed as a coach. He might have last year, but you have to count into that that Blackmon got hurt, but this year he is back to the same old Crean. He is also talking about how Butler lost last night because of taking to many 3's early in the shot clock. Well that is half our offense, but yet he says Crean has developed.

As far as player development there has not been much this year at all. He has had a few successes Oladipo, Sheehey, but he has had way more failures. We have not developed 1 decent big guy in 9 years since he has been here. Cody was no better the day that he left then the day that he showed up.

I'm talking about his football piece.

I listened to it all and I agree with him that Bryant is not ready, but that comes back to his development he was closer to being ready last year then he was right now. OG is the same way as Bryant, and if these people are not leaving how many scholarships do we have opening up? Is he going to redshirt Hartman? I think for the amount of people he has signed we already need to lose 1-2 people. If none of this happens are we going back to Creaning more players?

Also him saying he thinks 92% of IU fans are happy with him I think that is a gross miscalculation because I have not met 1 single person that is fully happy in the job he is doing/has done. Also if he was talking about how he thinks fans are 92% happy with him as a coach and not 92% of fans are happy I think that is a gross miscalculation also. People are not happy with his recruiting right now, people are not happy with his sub patterns, people are not happy with his defense, and there is much more. Either way Doyel meant that I think is way off base. They also are so quick to forget all the problems kids have had under him with the law, drugs, and alcohol. To keep praising him for his high character teams is a misrepresentation.

I truly want to know what Doyel is watching.  We need to go to Bryant more??   After watching that garbage the other night, who would say that?   He is getting better and better players?  Who?  Where?   Has he seen our class next season?   Our players are...okay, but better and better?  We had 2 lottery picks three years ago.   Better?  Where?   Crean's record is what it is.  He has been past the sweet 16 one time in 19 seasons.  In 11 seasons in a BCS conference (C-USA was a BS conference when he was at Marquette), he's finished above 4th place in his conference twice.   When is that good enough here??   The bar has been lowered if what Doyel says is accurate.

I think I would disagree on the big development. Davis this year has improved since last year in high school. His post moves are night and day. Play development involves physically growing with help of the weight room. Not sure that you saw Zeller in high school, but he was 210 lbs dripping wet when he stepped on campus. I also thought that helped his ability to rebound. He was so smart he was always in the right position on the boards. So I think the thought of him not developing a big is much like the thought high school coaches would do better than Crean are off.

Davis is better this year than any of us thought he would be.  Lets wait and see if he is better next year vs. this year before we say he has developed.  Zeller was not any better the day he left vs. the day he first started.  Yeah, he was obviously bigger than he was in high school, but I don't think he made any huge leaps freshman to sophomore year.  TB has regressed in a huge way!  Very disappointed in him this year, especially with all the bitching to the refs on "no calls"!

This.  Zeller was stronger but skill wise he was the same, and his pump fake completely disappeared.  Bryant isn't better at all, not to mention for much of the year he had the emotional stability of a toddler instead of a 13 year old like last year.

After filtering through the sunshine pumping, ugh, he had some good points about the players, but really couldn't get passed him drooling over Crean. Definitely seems to be making up for the past indiscretions.

I dont think i could even listen to one of those with him again. The butt kissing was pathetic.

Doyle has boarded the tom and joni train and he is not getting off. Sunshine and rainbows only. Maybe a tear or two.
