Post-Butler Frustration Thread

Recommended Posts

A few more things. I don't see IU having a counterpunch. If IU gets hit in the mouth (taking away transition and being physical) Crean doesn't have a go to counterpunch. (Good sets in the half court, secondary philosophy)

IU has the personnel to run a great high low with OG, JMo, TB, and DD. This is especially true when we have a size advantage. If teams (Butler) are going to takeaway transition and slow the game down why not punish them with TB and DD. There would be a disadvantage on defense but play a pack line to force contested jumpers.

It's just baffling to me, at this high level, that our coach resorts to "just play faster." Frustrating for fans and must be absolutely nuts for players.

His answer is to keep substituting until something works. If that doesn't work, it just wasn't our night.

Even then, certain players are allowed to stink up the floor for a whole half (JN), while others get pulled after a few minutes (DD). What is he saving DD for? Let him get some minutes! He needs more time with Bryant on the floor. While we're at it, I'm also tired of trying to force 6-8 guys to play the point because he thinks it's cute.

Did people notice some of the crafty drives by Newkirk in the second half of this game? It seems obvious he's trying to do too much, but there are some definite positives he brings to the team. I'm with HoosierCoop. I think he's still settling in to his role on the team. Sure he's been with us for a year, but these are his first two months of live action.

I said this during the game, but why does Crean feel the need to go 10-11 deep? There shouldn't be that much of a rotation and it'll get IU beat in he tournament. I guess I understand the idea of not tiring your guys out this early in the season, but when you're playing another Top 15/20 team in a tight game that you really need to win because the rest of your non-conference schedule is garbage, let your stars play every minute they possibly can!!!!! It's like Crean is trying to prove to someone that this team is deep.. Ok, we get it.. But against Butler, you play your best guys for as close to 40 minutes as possible.

What would his role be? Crean wants to spread the floor and drive and kick. Guards have to be able to shoot or drive and score in this offense. Ive been pleased with Josh on defense. And Im not one who thinks he is forcing things. He is taking what the defense is giving. But, on offense he isnt particularly quick, struggles to score around the basket and that jumper is ugly. Teams will try and force him to beat us from here on out.

I would have Newkirk as the second guard of the bench.

He sure eas hyped up over the summer but i guess thats the case alot of times. Heck peter jurkin was hyped up and he currently averages one point a game for middle Tennessee State. What a bust he was.

What I have seen him do is drive to the baseline and get caught making a hasty or poor decision on the kickout.  I think once he gets that under control, he will round out everything else.  Yogi did this as well.  It's the jump out of bounds and find the guy in the corner pass.  Against a decent team, that will raise your turnovers.

I could only watch the 1st half of that game from yesterday. And was thinking this exact thing! And you are exactly right, his answer is keep on substituting until something works/someone gets hot! That is his answer, have one of his players get hot and "carry" us through this. Instead of making an adjustment and giving our ball to our damn 6'10 long center on the block for a way HIGHER % SHOT!! TB is down to 50% from the field on the season btw, A BIG dip from last season. of course this is not counting our cupcake match we had last night, so he probably has upped that a couple % points

We'll never understand that. 9 players and that's it with this group. IF we have CH, then it would be 10

RoJo..JBJ..TB..OG..JMOR..DG..CuJo..JN..DD.......AND THAT'S IT!!!

And only use McRob when you absolutely had too!! McSwain only needs garbage time and cupcakes as well. We NEED Hartman back!

He is trying to bring fatigue to the game. Haven't you heard? That was another of his stock answers for awhile.

Hartman wont be back this year. Mcswain seems like the typical crean panic recruit like priller and april. He just cant help himself.

The frustrating thing for me about this game, regardless of the what the talking heads are saying, is not losing to Butler. They are a good team. It's that I know we should not have lost that game. We have the talent to beat that team, if it was utilized correctly. I never felt like Butler was a better team than IU. I did, however, feel that they were better coached and more fundamentally sound than us for most of the game.

Ok well he sure does not play much. Why bring in a junior college guy to sit on the bench?

He's played a heck a lot more than Priller and April did. He's averaging 8.7 minutes a game, contributing 3.1 PPG and 2.8 RPG.

He's definitely seems like a player Crean expects to develop, but he's certainly not useless like those two.

What we were pretty much saying not a post or 2 before yours. Something about not feeding TB in the post. Also feel this way about DD. He could have a High-Low game with those 2!! I'd love to see it
