  1. Terrible coaching down the stretch, but *insert comment on how hard it is to win on the road in the B1G*
  2. Knowing IU, it’s for 24 sports 1 team. I’d be shocked if it’s anything but that.
  3. During the broadcast the announcers said the teams would get 5 minutes before starting the game back up.
  4. Yes. The SEC and Big 10 are steps ahead of the rest. The Big 12 sucks. KSU won the conference and they’re getting murked by Bama.
  5. They really should’ve put Bama in the playoff instead of TCU.
  6. You mean Vic didn’t threaten to transfer, show up late to the bus, and complain about his role? Lol. I feel like anytime there’s an athletic but raw guy the Vic comparisons come out, but players like Vic are a rare breed.
  7. Yeah, there’s really nothing at all to suggest he would suddenly go from a career 29% three point to a 34% shooter if he took more shots. Usually the inverse happens - your percentage drops the more you take, and that’s exactly what’s happened with him. He went from 40% on 0.5 attempts per game to 31% on 0.9 attempts per game to 15% on 1.1 attempts per game. He’s made 2 threes all year. He made 9 threes all of last year. It doesn’t matter if his form looks nice if he doesn’t make them. Just look at Rob Phinisee.
  8. Athletes not caring about going to class was far from exclusive to Sampson. I and some of my friends had classes with IU basketball players, and even the ones you’d expect to care would rarely show up. He’s got Houston rolling. #3 in the country. Could’ve been doing it here but IU was too self-righteous.
  9. I said it in another game thread, but it is applicable here too. Our players play like basketball is a chore they have to do before they get to go do the things they really want to do.
  10. We’re in for a rough season with Xavier out indefinitely. TJD will help obviously, but the lack of guard play may doom us.
  11. Your position just doesn’t make any sense at all. Programs don’t lose their elite status after a year. In Duke’s case, it hasn’t even been a year. It’s been 13 games, and they’re 10-3. They have the #2 class signed in the class of 2023, with #5, #8, #13, #18, and #24 signed. Five 5 stars coming in. In UNC’s case, what have they done to no longer be an elite program? They played in the national championship game 8 months ago. This is what the poster you responded to said: Elite? For those who do not understand the concept… Elite is consistently in the top ten, winning at least one national championship, with at least one other final four appearance and an additional elite eight and an additional couple sweet sixteens, winning a couple or three big ten titles including a big ten tournament or two over a period of time like the next decade or ten years. That definition of ‘elite’ doesn’t lead to a program not being elite after a season. Doherty was at UNC for 3 seasons. UNC had a few bad years during that time, but yes, they were still an elite program. And they fired him and poached a great coach from another elite program because that’s what elite programs do. They refuse to accept mediocrity and they don’t self-sabotage.
  12. And those programs get the glory and the glowing coverage in the media. College basketball success is like a good hot dog. People don’t care (or want to know) about what goes into it. They just care about the results.
  13. To be fair to the loaded sandwich, our top 100 guys were both top 30 guys, and it’s much more common for those guys to produce as freshmen. When I hear ‘top 100’ player, I think of guys toward the bottom half of the top 100. Otherwise you’d just say top 30, top 50, etc. We get these top 100 guys like Duncomb and Banks who just never play as freshmen. And part of it may be that the IU commit tag elevates them into the top 100 when they wouldn’t ordinarily be there, who knows.
  14. Oh heavens no… They have last names on their jerseys?!
  15. You absolutely cannot sit there and say that Duke, UNC, and Nova are no longer elite programs lol. That’s just a silly thing to say right now. You don’t go from elite to not in the span of 18 months, especially when you’ve played in a national championship game during that span. IU lost its elite program status over almost two decades.
  16. I don’t think you can make that case at all. Nova and Duke are both in their first season without their coaches. UNC is in their second season and they made the title game in their first season. Maybe they will stop being elite, but it’s far too early to make that call.
  17. In a shock to no one, lol, I don’t. The 2016 team had a lot of leadership. Yogi, Biedfelt, Zeisloft, even Hartman. It had a bunch of talent and shooting. 2nd in the conference in 3pt shooting at 39.7%. This team has none of that, imo. Xavier was the closest thing to a “dog” that we had. Guard was already our biggest weakness and Xavier was our best one. The 2016 team beats this team by 20+, imo But, who knows. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong.
  18. After two decades of suckage of course fans are going to complain, and complain about anything and everything. We’re tired. I just don’t watch the cupcake games. I’m busy and watching uncompetitive games against no name schools just isn’t fun for me.
  19. The way he’s threatened to leave twice really rubs me the wrong way. Like, dude, if you want to go then go. You aren’t good enough for us to beg you to stay. If you want more minutes, develop perimeter skills. There’s a gaping hole at the 3. If you can’t play there, that’s on you.
  20. It’s easier to say that something is irrelevant than it is to admit we’re lacking in it. IU basketball is old and stuffy. We’re not a cool program currently. And the usual suspects will fight change every step of the way. Just look at their reaction to G herbo coming to HH. The program needs a total overhaul.
  21. We were the (self-proclaimed) leader in NIL for a few days last year.
  22. How does that website calculate the valuations? Matthews had 224 receiving yards last year, so I’m surprised he’d be higher than McCullough.
  23. Fire is something you either have inside of you or don’t. If you have it, money won’t make it go away. Tom Brady’s 45 years old, made hundreds of millions of dollars, and still has as much fire as anyone in the NFL. Our guys play like basketball is a chore they have to get out of the way before they can go do the things they really want to do.
  24. We’ll still need a big or two for the sake of depth if nothing else. A Malik/JG frontcourt is too small for my liking. There’s Duncomb, but given his lack of playing time we have no idea what we have there. I definitely agree with you regarding guard/wing play, though. We just lack an identity as a team. Some teams beat you with great guard play, some teams do it with imposing bigs, others do it with shooting. Some teams have lesser talent but wear you down and outwork you. We have a collection of, on the whole, above average talent, but no real identity. Last year we at least played hard defense most of the time, but that went to crap against Zona/Kansas.
