  1. Lol what a loser. Although in fairness to him, he couldn’t even handle t30 minutes of BTA before 5 ended his season, so he unfortunately didn’t get the full IU defensive experience.
  2. I’d be fine shuttering the basketball program altogether to give Cig another $15 million or however much it’d be. Firing Devries won’t do any good because the next guy won’t be any better. We’ll see what Devries cooks up in this portal. This past season was pretty predictable once we saw last year’s roster come together. We should have a good sense of what next season/his tenure outlook looks next in the next month.
  3. IU Crean in the portal era certainly would’ve been interesting to see.
  4. There’s a huge gap between winning a NC and losing twice in two weeks to a 15-18 Northwestern team to blow a tournament appearance. IU just can’t seem to find someone within that gap. Devries screwed up last offseason, which in turn made this past season a complete waste. Now we’re likely bringing only one player back and Devries has lost the “new coach momentum” an IU coach gets before they inevitably fizzle out.
  5. You can suck worse than any other school in the country for 125 years and then win a title two years later if you hire the right coach. IU has had a rough 21st century but that’s increasingly irrelevant in the NIL/portal era. Devries just has no motion so it’s back to the same excuses we saw for the past two coaches.
  6. Calipari went to 7 elite eights in 15 seasons at UK while we haven’t been there in almost a quarter century. There’s nothing stopping IU from buying a “dream team.” IU just won’t do it, and that’s why we’ll most likely be right back in this position next year wondering why we missed the tournament and why all our players are leaving.
  7. All the excuses in the world go out the window for Devries when the guy next door takes over the worst P4 football program in the country and wins a national championship two years later. Winners win, particularly in the NIL/portal era. I don’t expect a NC out of Devries, but there’s no reason he can’t build a team that’s solidly in the tournament next year.
  8. Nothing we’ve seen from Devries suggests he’s a good enough coach to win with middling talent. We tried the mid major scrappy underdogs approach last year. It was a disaster. It will be very disappointing if we do the same or similar this year.
  9. IU could lose every game in every other sport and Dolson’s job would be as safe as could be as long as Coach Cig keeps winning. In the big 2026, there’s football and then there’s everything else.
  10. IU used to be a basketball school. Now we’re firmly a football school. The number of fans who would trade a football NC for a basketball one is very very low, imo. College football is so much more significant of a sport, and we’re sitting at the very top of it.
  11. I’m indifferent on IU basketball this point and just view resources directed toward it as a waste of funds that could go to Coach Cig. But it seems like we have people preaching patience with every hire, we see other guys come in and win immediately, and then our guy never gets it going. Iowa is in the elite 8 while our guy couldn’t get his team to win 1 of 2 against a crappy northwestern team to make the tournament. Maybe he’ll get it going in year 2. Maybe our donors can buy a good enough team. But everything we’ve seen from Devries in his 12 months has been incredibly meh.
  12. Ben McCollum is taking Iowa to the Elite 8 in year 1 and we’re here debating how a coach needs years and years to build a foundation.
  13. We should’ve hired Calipari when UK was getting rid of him.
  14. This year would’ve been the year to try that. Making the tournament next year is a necessity if Devries wants anything more than a quick exit as head coach.
  15. It’s not like firing any of the last 3 coaches was the wrong move. But if you’re going to get the same results regardless of the coach, might as well save the money.
  16. The worst part is that this year was a completely wasted one. No culture. No player development. No real vision for the future. We have to start over from scratch once again.
  17. Yea I think I’m out on Devries. The bubble is begging for IU to get in and he can’t get his team up to beat a crappy Northwestern team. Just a pitiful end to the season.
  18. Not having to pay millions of dollars to his rec league level athleticism son will help our portal haul this offseason at least.
  19. That one hit was likely the best hit an AD has ever had though considering the historical context of the IU football program.
  20. I don't really have any confidence in Devries, but I also think this past coaching search showed us that no one is coming to save IU basketball. We're gonna have to find a guy who can build something here. And Devries is getting 3 years at least regardless, so we'll just have to hope he can land enough talent in the portal to win at a level we'd be happy with.
  21. If you had a 137 year old son going into his freshman year at IU in 2024, he would’ve only seen IU win a bowl game in 3 of those years. Two years later that youngster watched IU win the national championship. The past doesn’t really matter anymore in today’s college landscape. Not if you’re a legit coach. Not when you can pay millions of dollars to players. BYU of all places is landing 5 stars, and it’s not because 18 year olds are hyped to abstain from the typical collegiate extracurricular activities. It should be much easier for a coach to get IU basketball back toward the top of the conference than it should be to win a football national championship at IU, but the basketball program seems cursed.
  22. I’ll be honest… I’ve been spoiled so much the past two years that I’d be disappointed by a 8-4, 9-3 finish and solid bowl game. I 100% understand now why OSU, Alabama, etc. fans are the way that they are. With that said, I love college football so much that I’d still be fully on board if we regress to being good but not great. I think most fans are starving so much for a winner that they would be too. We’re certainly not looking like we’ll to get a winner in basketball anytime soon, and a “just good” IUFB would benefit in that scenario.
  23. Outside of Dorn’s linsanity run, this has largely been another miserable season. At least they become more tolerable the more of them you watch, I guess.
  24. I just signed up this week (lived out of state for a while and am moving back this summer). I’m telling myself it’s a long-term strategy to get myself in the door in case we get good again and demand for season tickets skyrockets.
