Dolson, unfortunately, can’t do much to fix the situation we’re in, and it’s completely his own fault. IUFB doesn’t have $30 million to fire him. We won’t be able to afford to fire him until after the 2024 season. Our roster may resemble an FCS school by then. If you’re a talented player on IU’s roster as of today, why wouldn’t you flee the sinking ship? You can go anywhere else and play right away. If you’re a high school recruit, why would you join a sinking ship?

IU simply cannot afford two more seasons of Tom Allen. Dude has got to go this off-season if IU wants to have anything resembling a big ten program moving forward.
-
Oh yeah by the time Allen is fired the program will be an absolute dumpster fire (not that it’s not already). That’s why it’s a little weird to me that there’s apparently money set aside for once he gets fired, but at the same time I can’t blame donors for not paying $30 million to get rid of him. Just an absolutely disastrous move by Dolson back in 2020.

Allen’s a dead man walking and I think everyone involved with the team knows it. The only reason he’s still here is because we can’t afford to fire him. We’re just waiting until his buyout drops. So, why stay at IU when you can play immediately somewhere else?
-
Because he’s not very good but has to start to maintain some semblance of spacing in the starting lineup (and because we have a glaring hole at the wing). He’s a 36% shooter from 3. Our last conference title team shot 41.5% from 3… as a team. That team had 5 guys taking at least 1.5 threes a game who shoot better than Kopp. But on this team, he’s our ‘shooter.’ Woodson didn’t do anything this past offseason to address shooting, so it’s no surprise that shooting is once again an issue this season.
-
First, Xavier wasn’t brought in to address shooting. He shot 34% at Pitt. Second, Yeah, he brought them in last year. Then the team finished second to last in 3pt shooting. He didn’t bring anyone in to address last season’s 3 point woes. Saying “but Woodson brought Xavier and Kopp!” makes absolutely no sense. They literally were on last year’s team.
-
What are you talking about? Kopp and XJ were on last year’s team. The team that was 13th in 3pt %. Them being on this year’s team isn’t Woodson “addressing shooting.” The guy who led our team in makes and percentage last year left and we didn’t bring any new shooters in to replace that production. You don’t address an issue by doing nothing to fix it.

The poster I was responding to was referencing the ‘quality shots’ stat from last year, so that’s what I was talking about. Before today we’ve had 2 games against good teams. TJD and Xavier had 53 of our 81 points against Xavier and 41 of our 77 against UNC. We’re overly reliant on them because we don’t really have good options outside of them, and Xavier is too inconsistent to rely on. He has great games about half the time, duds like today the other half. When Trayce isn’t otherworldly the offense looks very pedestrian.

I doubt they’d get in with a loss. Nor should they, imo. The Big 12 sucks. Alabama would be undefeated playing in the Big 12 too, and they lost their two games, both on the road, by a combined 4 points. Not that it should matter, but Tennessee’s QB being out for the year would probably keep the committee from putting them in over Alabama.

So, didn’t we give him a big buyout to prevent another school from poaching him? In the event Liberty decided to tear out the hearts of IUFB fans and hire Allen, could we theoretically let them have him without paying us anything? (Not that we’d ever want that to happen because he’s a great coach, oh please Liberty, if you’re reading, he’s outstanding, please don’t do it!)
-
I forgot Sorsby in between them, but I was going off this tweet. Maybe that was a one time thing, idk. Looking back I don’t think Gremel ever played in that game so it probably was off.

The top 3 QBs on the depth chart are transferring out, and a fourth QB suffered a horrible leg injury. Not great. None of them were particularly good, but now we need bodies to fill the QB room. Dexter Williams had the most success, but he can’t throw. Completed 34% of his passes this season. Having him run for his life isn’t a sustainable game plan going into next season, if he’s even ready at the start of the season. This offseason could get ugly.
