  1. May be different coaching college basketball, though. In the NBA you get a long offseason that, for the most part, is a true offseason. In college you end one season and then a new season of recruiting starts right after. Even more so now with the portal. I’m also worried that he doesn’t have the energy levels of some of his younger competitors. He seems kind of low e.
  2. He was a good player individually his sophomore and junior seasons. There was the bar incident which was minor, but he was also one of the leaders of two teams that were absolute messes off the court. All I’m saying is that he is a player who had a massive perception change with his great senior season. If he had left IU after his junior season he would be remembered much differently.
  3. Yogi really changed his image with his big senior season. Prior to that he wasn’t thought of too highly by a lot of fans given his off the court actions and IU’s meh seasons during Yogi’s sophomore and junior seasons.
  4. Over our last 16 games, he shot 6-12 and had 15 points in the BTT against PSU. In the other 15 games, he shot 10-55, which is 18.2%. Even including the PSU game, he shot 23.9% over our last 16 games. Shot 31.3% from the field in conference play and only had double figures in 3 of 20 regular season conference games. Just a very meh player.
  5. Agree to disagree I suppose. There’s a middle ground between thinking the amount you’re making isn’t enough and asking to make as much as arguably the best player in college basketball. Especially with how he played in the second half of this season. Idk how much Trayce was making. I’d imagine it’s over $500k. You definitely don’t need that much to support a child. A report like that makes me see him as a selfish player who doesn’t care about the team at all, which is not what I want on the team. Could be off, but that’s how I see it.
  6. I don’t ‘blame’ him for asking. Closed mouths don’t get fed and all that. But I’d be lying if I said that a bench player asking for all-American/lottery pick lottery money doesn’t run me the wrong way.
  7. In Mike Woodsonn we trust.
  8. Saw some tweets that SS was reporting Bates tried submitting his transfer application but clanged it off the front of the mailbox. Asked the mailman for some NIL money in exchange for picking it up.
  9. Dude is delusional if he thinks he deserves TJD money for below replacement level production.
  10. If he comes off the bench it’s fine, but I’d be surprised if he transferred here to be a back up. Especially given our lack of big guys. Not sure Reneau is big enough to start at the 5.
  11. Not sure how to feel about Sparks. A lot of the talk over the past two seasons was how Woody didn’t want to play the type of offense we did but had to because of the personnel we had. Sparks seems to fit how we’ve played in the past, not how Woody purportedly wants to play moving forward.
  12. Not sure how that makes us “wrong.” Cinderella coaches get hired by P5 programs all the time. The ‘skepticism’ is skepticism that said coaches can actually replicate their success at the P5 level. Take Porter Moser, for example. Does great at a mid major. Goes to Oklahoma and he’s 34-32 overall and 12-24 in the Big 12 during his first two seasons.
  13. With regard to the bolded, I think that’s largely driven by Woody being 65 years old and the rumors that he may not want to stick around as long as originally expected.
  14. Certainly it’s intriguing, but it’s still very risky. Before this season he was 66-56 over four years at FAU. Fortunately we’re in a position where we won’t be taking such a risk for at least a few years, giving some other school time to risk it. Like someone upthread said, Porter Moser was the sparkly Cinderella but he’s flaming out at the P5 level. If IU’s his dream job, he’d still be in play when it comes time to replace Woody even if he moves to a P5.
  15. If he didn’t have an IU connection folks would view him with the same skepticism they view other coaches with Cinderella tournament runs.
  16. Love seeing Gonzaga get dominated.
  17. It’s not “trashing” players to speak objectively about their abilities as players. Jordan Geronimo has played 82 college basketball games. Mediocre at best sums up those 82 games. Some are enamored by his physical abilities, but when a player is heading into his senior year, talks about his “potential” are a bit misguided. We’ve seen nothing from him to expect a substantially improved player next year. And yeah, Bates was a 5 star recruit two years ago. Now, two years later, he’s played 67 games and been seriously underwhelming. He had 1 good game in our last 16 games this year. In the other 15 games, he went 10-55 (18.1%), including 0-13 in the tournament, and now there are talks of him wanting NIL money for both himself and his family members. To that, I say see ya. It won’t be hard to replace his production. A lot of guys at the HPER can miss all their shots too.
  18. I don’t disagree with the bolded at all. Tamar Bates and Jordan Geronimo just aren’t the difference between us looking like a program that will win and us not. They’re mediocre at best role players.
  19. I had 27/32 first round games and now I have two teams left, both of whom I have losing in the next round.
  20. Bates hit as many shots in the tournament as I did and Geronimo has been living off his “potential” for 3 years now. Through 82 games he’s a 3.8 ppg guy. At a certain point your ‘potential’ turns into ‘you are what you are.’ He’s been flirting with leaving for 3 years now. Let him leave and go find a portal guy with his athleticism who can actually hoop too.
  21. @Chris007 cmon man you just ruined HoosierHooper’s Friday night
  22. Isn’t Furst a plodding big man? That’s not the kind of player I want getting heavy minutes. TJD couldn’t shoot a lick, but he was pretty quick and agile for a big. Playing him and Race together was the problem. Why keep the same roster construction? I want a team of athletes. Look at the teams still left in the tournament. How many start a guy like Furst? Our current style isn’t a good fit for the college basketball landscape.
  23. Hearing these stories of Duncomb’s exploits makes me miss the days when we had serious players whose 1 and only priority was basketball. Guys like Hanner Perea.
