http://iuhoosiers.com/news/2017/9/8/mens-basketball-mcginnis-time-at-iu-should-be-remembered-fondly.aspx George going to the Hall of Fame. He's the best ever to wear the Indiana jersey. His impact was immediate. In just his third game, he had 38 points and 20 rebounds in a close loss to Kentucky. He would score 30 points or more 13 times during. He would finish as the first sophomore ever to lead the conference in scoring and rebounding. Just twice has any Big Ten player averaged more points or rebounds per game since in league play. -

Can't really argue with that. He was an incredible talent and it is a disgrace that it has taken this long for him to be recognized by the Hall. I remember the epic game between Washington and an excellent Marion team in the '69 state tourney. And what a recruiting haul for IU to land him and Downing. Great memories and thanks for starting this thread. -

A few thoughts on the game... - I'm not sure Virginia wins too many games this year. I'm certainly not trying to downplay this W, but let's just keep things in perspective. They're very basic and have few weapons on either side of the ball. That being said... - We beat a Power 5 team on the road. Again. And we did it convincingly. We're starting to build consistency as a program. We're not a bottom-feeder anymore. Many folks are getting caught-up in the IU-fueled "breakthrough" mantra, but we've definitely improved as a program the last three years or so with wins like this one. We can't take these W's for granted. - Our defense played pretty well today. Not great, but solid. Didn't give up big plays. Kept things in front of them. I'd like to see them make a few more "big" plays, but I'll take today's effort. They kept things in-check while our offense was trying to figure things out. Still think the defense can play better, though. Like to see a few more takeaways that actually count... - Special teams! Alright! Really outplayed them in this segment of the game. Harris can be a threat in the punt return game. Williams had a couple solid returns as well. Punting game was solid. And Oakes made a couple of though kicks at important times. That's how you win ball games. - The QB issue. A lot of hot takes on this thus far. As always, the truth probably lies somewhere in between. There's no doubt that we caught them off guard with Ramsey's mobility. Defenses will start to focus on Ramsey now, too. And that will make a difference. That being said, I've seen a lot of hubbub in this thread on the one throw that he made to Hale... kind of like that's an aberration and that he can't make that throw on a regular basis. My question is: How do we know that? We didn't need him to do that today. We needed him to manage the game, move the ball and not turn the ball over. Check, check and check. Does he have Lagow's arm? No. Can he make the throws that Lagow can make? It remains to be seen. But about half the time Lagow can't make the throws Lagow makes (speaking of his consistent inconsistencies.) It was also said that Ramsey wasn't going to beat Wisconsin, Michigan, etc. No, but he could beat Rutgers, Illinois, Purdue, etc. Ramsey isn't a great QB right now, but he's more than a novelty and any assertion to the contrary completely disregards his effort today. - That being said... I still think we need Lagow and he deserves to play some. Ramsey played well today, but he didn't light the world on fire. He played well. Lagow has played well in the past, too. Someone said if we have two QBs we really don't have any... not sure about that. Again, we've played two games. We can't answer that question. It's good to have some options so we don't have to solely rely on either one this season. -

If you play 2 QBs, then you don't have a QB. At no point in Lagow's time has he earned this kind of devotion, he's probably had more games like tonight than he's had games where he looked like he belonged on the field. I think Ramsey at least earned his chance to be the guy over a player we know will completely crap the bed at some point. -

Ramsey was rolling to his right and threw a 40 yard pass exactly where it should have been to Hale for a TD. Comparing him to Zander is absurd. -

Zander has a career passing percentage of 49.4%. He threw for two career touchdown passes. He was very bad. Ramsey threw two touchdowns this afternoon alone. To try and compare the two is absurd. -

Missed the second half, but thrilled to see we pulled out a relatively comfortable win and thrilled to see that Ramsey had a great game and has hopefully taken over that QB spot. Now before someone accuses me of gloating, let me say this. Lagow is not the right QB for this team, but not all of that is his fault. Our o-line sucks, and we simply need a QB back there that can scramble around and make plays. Not necessarily Lagow's fault, that's just the way it is. Also, DeBoard clearly has zero clue how to successfully use Lagow. All these quarterback read plays are insanely stupid with a QB who is no threat to keep the ball. Also most of the passing plays are just lobs up to 1v1 coverage Absurd. From what I saw in the first half and seeing the stats, it looks like they did a great job utilizing Peyton's skills. Again, that probably has to do with him fitting in better with the offense they want to run anyways. Hopefully we continue to see Ramsey out there. I know some fans ridiculed ones calling for Ramsey, saying that simply wouldn't happen. Well guess what? Tom Allen isn't Kevin Wilson. And thank God for that. If you don't play good, you get pulled. It worked today. So onto Florida International we go!! -

Unfortunately, our OL isn't really geared to help Lagow because we literally cannot run with the threat of a QB running. Ramsey was fantastic. I do worry about the amount of hits he took today. He was so poised though and turned the jets on, on that run. SPT won that game today, they were fantastic. Sent from my SM-G950U using BtownBanners mobile app -

Definitely odd. I guess he feels that if he gives the nod to Ramsey outright you cant go back to Lagow. Sounds like he wants to keep his options open at least for the time being. Ramsey will still play plenty. It says a lot that Allen never went back to Lagow in the game today. -

You have a selective memory. He had plenty of opportunities to throw in 2014 as Hoosierfan showed above and it was a total FAIL. This was with a great O-line and a 2000+ yard running back. -

Pop in to catch some post game chatter and I get a Zander Diamont highlight vid. Indiana football never ceases to amaze me. Good, solid win. Nice bounce back. I like Ramsey, but as Old Friend mentioned, it will be different when teams have time to prepare for him. Hope he and the staff are up to it, but I like what I saw. Onward. Go Hoosiers! -

I've been asking around a lot of different IU sites, groups, friends with somewhat of a connection, and nobody seems to know. It's very odd. He would be a great short yardage option it seems. -

OSU has some very good running backs, but yet they continue to feature JTB who seems to me to be a very average qb. I know we are not on their level but they didn't put us away until they went to the run game. -

Watched the game, of course. Pretty impressive performance IMO. Ramsey was impressive. Ellison is going to be really good. Already is. Very curious to see how we handle QB going forward. Lagow can make throws that Ramsey can't. Ramsey ran a solid offense though. That's going to be a tough choice. I don't really know why Majette is getting any more carries. In all his attempts I've been underwhelmed. I enjoyed the game and was happy to see us get the W. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -

It definitely seems very Crean-esque. The next two games are against weak teams and would give Ramsey a lot of good reps before we face the rest of the Big 10 gauntlet. At the least it would show us whether Ramsey is capable of repeating this kind of performance. Sticking with Lagow doesn't make much sense to me. It's inevitable that he'll throw a pick or two next weekend and several other balls that should be picked. Juggling between two quarterbacks makes even less sense to me because it keeps either from establishing a rhythm. -

I think you proved our point.. This was a highlight video of our quarterback, by his junior year. How many of his highlights were passes? 4. In a 6 minute video of his career highlights, only four were pass plays (and one was like a 15 yard pass). Says all you need to know. Serious question, has Zander ever completed 16 passes in a game? -

Diamont never showed a fraction of the passing ability that Ramsey did, even with defenses selling out to stop the run. Ramsey can certainly improve, but he was looked better than Lagow and not even comparable to Diamont. -

After watching the game, I think Ramsey is the real deal, and he made some really good throws without turning it over or forcing it, too.
