NRT137 Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 I thought cujo and green were the biggest standouts today. They seemed comfortable shooting the three, cujo made a couple pretty deep threes and green went 5 in a row. Nothing impressive about Davis, although he was guarded by Bryant the whole time. I like Newkirk so far, he's pretty fast and is a threat from three. Rojo just looked mature, comfortable, although I'm pretty sure he changed up his shooting form? He releases the ball from his right side, somewhat like jordan hulls did. I was also impressed with Blackmon nailing a couple of threes, he just seemed very calm and collected when he shot the three. Og looked fine. If we can stay healthy, we'll have a good chance at beating any team in the league with our depth. Heck, Hartman almost won the three point contest barely able to jump with his knee brace. Overall, our defense has probably improved, our outside shooting is strong, but our finishing inside the lane needs work. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Alford Bailey Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 TB has been working on his shot. Green is a ball player(new it). Deron is a hoss and has a decent jumper but can he get up and down the floor? Newkirk looks fine but no Yogi. We have some really nice pieces hope they can mesh well. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

A legend... A few Q's for those who attended: 1) Who had the biggest upper body? 2) Who played with the most furiosity? 3) Compared to last season, how are we? Alford Bailey Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Couple other takeaways. Appears Colin is a big big loss for this group just listening to Crean. McSwain appears to be a project for sure. Stuhoo 1 Quote

People sometimes want to minimize it (not saying you are) because his stats don't jump off the page and he's not a super athlete or all-conference player, but to a coach Colin is one of the guys you need. He's always in the right place at the right time, he not only knows where he's supposed to be but where everyone else is supposed to be, he's tough as nails, he understands when to push, when to pull back, etc. Those guys aren't just replaced by stats. Not it saying the season is doomed or anything, just saying Colin is the kind of player you don't replace by just plugging in someone else with the same stats. HoosierAloha Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Honestly I big takeaway I had was that I have no problems with Newkirk and glad he will takeover at PGGoing off HH only, I would have Newkirk running the team. I still like RoJo but not as much a pure point. Newkirk looks to make the play or push the ball ahead while also taking and making the open shot. RoJo turned the ball over a few times in the scrimmage. I'm not saying Newkirk replaces Yogi but he'll fill the void for a few years. Alford Bailey 1 Quote
Alford Bailey Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Pretty sure Newkirk is gonna run the show. Crean is high on him. I wonder where Jones and Green find minutes. Both are too good to sit the bench. O, and I bet Gelon plays. HoosierAloha 1 Quote

I don't like the 3 guard lineup and I could see it costing us a game or two early. I hope when Hartman returns we go back to a more traditional lineup. Hardwood83 1 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 That's the thing Hartman gave us perfect depth to go traditional. Still wanting to see a lot of Bryant, Juwan, OG together. But our guards can shoot it and we will make a lot of 3s this season. Each position can shoot the three if you run G, G, Juwan, OG, TB. Sent from my iPad using BtownBannersI was impressed with Davis' jumper. I watched him for a bit in the warmups and he made every three. I worry about his stamina though. If everyone is healthy we should be able to go 5 deep at guard (JN, JBJ, RoJo, CuJo, and Green) and 5 deep on the wing and post (Hartman, OG, JMo, Davis, and TB). I could see McSwain getting minutes and McRoberts getting run in a Burton type role. Quote
