I still don't get leaving Oregon for Miami.

He played for the 'Canes back when they were the sh-t. Won two nattys. Also was an assistant under Butch Davis when they were building what some consider to be the best team in college football history.

Wants to help them reclaim the glory. Sorta like Woody.

Except for Clemson, the ACC isn't exactly a powerhouse league -- so with the right dude in place, Miami could be a ticking time-bomb waiting to explode again.

Going back home for a Cuban guy that was born, raised, and played his entire career in Miami is a pretty big deal. Not to mention it's going to be a lot smoother of a road in the ACC than in the Pac12 if Riley meets expectations at SC.

Yea pretty much all of that was the excuse for Taggart as well. We seen how that went.

Not sure it's an "excuse". And not sure Taggart and Cristobal are in the same stratosphere of program-building abilities either.

Miami is in a much better position than the other two

Maybe. Miami has been trying and it just keeps coming up short. On their 4th coach now since 2015. Sometimes it just isn't gonna happen. For whatever reason. Maybe it's karma. Who knows. I do think college football would be better with programs like Miami, Nebraska and USC being really good.

Miami won championships in multiple decades under multiple coaches. IU and Nebraska had success mostly under their two legendary coaches. Not to mention what the city of Miami provides that program.

Not to mention, the city of Miami and surrounding areas are Indiana’s version of basketball recruiting grounds on an obscene amount of steroids. Cristobal lived there for 30+ years cultivating relationships in probably the most relationship-centric football recruiting area in the country. I think he’s going to absolutely kill it at Miami and that whole conference probably does too.

Mr. Whipple (who's old enough to remember him?) is leaving Pitt. Perhaps he was squeezed out ...

Although I've seen that he might be on the way to Nebraska to become OC there. Wonder if he taught the Pitt QB that bush league fake slide he employed against Wake in the ACC title game.

Where does the money come from? Endowment fund?

Miami just got screwed:

Paid Manny Diaz buyout.
Paid Mario Cristobal buyout.
Finally will pay Mario 8 mil year for 10 years

That conversation lives on a slippery slope. The money is coming from UMiami Health after a couple of pretty profitable years.

man, that is just crazy. $400 mil profit. Gotta love insurance payouts. And the worst facilities in the ACC.  I imagine this will be the common practice from here on out in College athletics with 10 year contracts now.

It's a private university.  That changes the legal restrictions greatly. There are likely far fewer restrictions in their charter regarding re-portioning budgetary items and pulling funds from the coffers.

Also, South Florida has some big, big money donors from two continents. Dwarfs what IU donors might pony up.

I was just saying that conversation can take a political turn really quickly. Twitter had "one of those days" when these articles started rolling out.

Somewhat agree.  But there are only 3 schools with NCAA basketball titles in 4 different decades.  IU is one of those.  That's special on a high level
