Job/Networking Thread

Recommended Posts

A while back in the prayer thread I believe I'd made a comment about doing this.  I like my job.  I really do.  What I don't like is being a 4-5 day a month father.  It's hard on me and her.  Figured we could post what we do, and, if nothing else, maybe help a fellow Hoosier fans who might be unemployed, or, like me, looking for a better opportunity.

I'm at work, so I'm going to come back and edit this with what job i have and what I'm looking for, etc.

Anyone think this is a good idea, or??

Edit:  Just posted it below!

Best of luck pappy!

I really like the idea of this thread, but of course I do, because I'm a college student haha.

I'm interning in New Jersey at a Fortune 500 company. Its mostly insurance, but I work in a supporting group that handles staffing management and sourcing strategy. Bachelors will be in Strategic Corporate Communications from IU. In the past I've interned at a PR firm in Manhattan. Hoping to intern at an Indianapolis PR firm in the fall. Would love any opportunity to work in IU athletics.

Looking forward to what everyone has to share!

Great idea! I am currently a Biomedical Engineer at Parkview. I am not sure how long I will be here as I am looking to move into Nips neck of the woods. I recently got my MBA so I am banking on that. But I still know some people at Parkview if anyone looks there.

Thanks for the replies!  I am a seasoned Construction Manager with a firm that focuses on Pharmaceutical Plants mainly, with some food plants thrown in. Currently travelling from Indiana to Oklahoma every week, but, unless something breaks in the few interviews I've had, come August 1st I move to Fort Dodge, Iowa, and will only get home about 3-4 days a month until the end of the year, minus the 9 day vacation in November to Florida.

Also, even though my degree is in construction, I'm open to changing fields/careers if the opportunity or fit would be right.

I am in the energy business. Has been a great area but with some of the renewable push and crude prices falling the industry has taken some hits. Still I would recommend it.

Anyone have any energy industry questions let me know. If any of you are fuel buyers with your current company send me a pm.

I'm a senior at IU spending this summer studying for the LSAT/preparing application material. I've looked into IU's law school and like a lot of things about it, plus it makes sense for personal reasons, but I have some doubts. If anyone has any insights about Maurer or the legal field in general that they could share with me I'd appreciate it.

Can't believe this topic hasn't gotten more replies!  Like I posted in the prayer thread, hoping to make a company change within the month to take me off the road.  Well, I'll still be driving from Terre Haute to Indy everyday, but that's nothing! Hope you all are well.

Have a degree in Safety Engineering from Indiana University. Started off as a a Environmental, Health and Safety Director in the automotive industry. Spent a few years as a Safety Consultant in the construction field. Loved the money that came with those jobs but I like being with my family more. Gave all that up and became a Professional Firefighter. Work 10 days a month and love my job. I still have some contacts in the Safety field around the Louisville, KY area but if you are interested in becoming a firefighter I can advise you on what to do to prepare for the testing but it is all up you and how well you do on the physical ability and written tests.

I'm a sophomore at IU in the Kelley School of Business, currently studying Information Systems. Hoping to get a job in the future in consulting. I most likely will be getting my Indiana insurance license next summer as my dad owns his own insurance agency and he said it can't hurt.
