(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

Same amount of time he's going to have for 1 and dones.

It's so much more the skill, the want to, and BBIQ than the time.

This group of guys we have are vastly overrated. They want bomb threes but none of them are great 3 point shooters.

We need more natural scorers. More grit on D and then WaaLaa, we will win games.

That wasn't your comment. You said 8 months. It's always, always, always easier to plug 2-3 people into a group with experience than to try to get an inexperienced group to preform immediately.

He was hired 8 months ago. He's had 8 months to teach them the system. And he has on more than one occasion said the system takes 3 years to learn.

That is not true. Period.

Those one and dones will also benefit from having players who have played in the system. It's amazing what a little experience can do for a team. Furthermore, it'll help the players teaching the system.

The biggest issues this group has is not being dogs, breaking old habits, and trusting one another. IU, under CAM, will get it going. Having uber talents in Romeo and Garland will help.

True. I would be interested to see how often freshmen were even contributors on his past teams.  Especially the last few years.

What part isn't true?  He was hired 8 months ago. Did he take a 6 month hiatus I missed?

If CAM had unlimited access to his players in those 8 months then I would agree with you that they should be further along but since the NCAA limits access for coaches and players during the summer then I’m afraid that saying he had 8 months to teach the players is not accurate in my opinion

He has had the same amount of time he will have with 1 and dones which was my point. And these kids will still have habits that need broken.

I think it's been 6 weeks as a team.

I guess you haven't been reading this thread. Other posters were discussing the coaching search and I offered my two cents. Why don't you go after them. You won't because you dislike what I wrote. That is it.

Well....that is usually how it works.

So what are you suggesting. That you have already decided he is the wrong guy for the job?

Not at all. Wow. That's a leap.

I am wondering if he got so caught up in being able to recruit 1 and dones he hasn't asked should he.

Seems more like a Bo Ryan or Jay Wright to me.

If the system does take more time than usual to learn. 25-100 might be our bread and butter for recruiting.

Interesting take I hadn’t thought of. I would say for next year Romeo is the only sure 1 and done he is after and since he is an instate kid he pretty much has to recruit him. I would guess when he has upperclassman in his system that know the system they will be able to help the coaches teach the young guys the system. Right now he pretty much has 13 freshman trying to learn the system in a short amount of time

Gotcha. Kind of the Villanova approach. I tend to think he will pursue the Arizona approach with high end players, at least initially, before coming back to that conclusion.

I also am hopeful that this is a lot like Norman Dale and his Hickory team. One of the Hickory insiders, a gal name Opal Fleener, said coach Dale told her he had to "break em down then build them back up". If so hopefully this is the breaking down period.

We have 18 pages arguing about the meaning of an announcement time for Garland, but no one has jumped up to over analyze this gem.
