BburgHoosier Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 During the past two recruiting classes and in the 2017 class, there have been QBs that would have been good fits for the CKW offense and been impact recruits. Tommy Stevens - ended up at PSU Brandon Peters - going to UM Hunter Johnson - committed to Clemson What is it that prevents IU from closing on QBs from Indiana? Will any of these three become a starter at their destination schools? Quote
Popular Post WayneFleekHoosier Posted February 9, 2016 Popular Post Posted February 9, 2016 History and winning is why they aren't coming to Indiana. However, if we keep putting players in NFL, AND offering early playing time, I expect a change/improvement in in-state recruiting. Look at PSU, UM, Clemson. That's your answer. However, if we keep putting players in NFL, AND offering early playing time, I expect a change/improvement in in-state recruiting. Look at PSU, UM, Clemson. That's your answer. Nailed it. Taking it a step further, Hunter Johnson was a top-20 player in the country. Brandon Peters was a top-50ish. Both ended up at schools with deep football traditions. Tommy Stevens did commit to Indiana right up until he got a better offer. I'm not sure what, if anything, happened more behind the scenes in Stevens' case. Edit: Here's what Kevin Wilson said about Tommy Stevens though he did not specifically say he was saying it about Stevens: "You know, lot of guys want it now. I get that," Wilson said. "I think it's hard at every position. It's a dynamic in recruiting. You go a year ago and a year ago today, we've got a junior and two sophomores. So the year before, nobody wanted to come because they were sophomore and all freshmen. And the one guy (Roberson) had gotten hurt, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So, actually it was two sophomores and a freshman, but the sophomore got redshirted. "Then the following year you go out and look at the high school guys. Well, the starting quarterback is just a sophomore. 'I don't want to come play.' This year we were a lot more attractive prior to injury at the time. So you've got to take some developmental guys. "But when you go out and market yourself on guys, that's been a tough sell. That being said, too, you want the guys to kind of buy in. I know we tried very, very hard to support our guys on the field, off the field, classroom, weight room, practice. And we encourage guys that this is a great place to hang with it. Great things are going to happen." WayneFleekHoosier and HoosierReb01 2 Quote
lucel15 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Well we don't want Johnson so let's continue to find more Sudfelds and hopefully in a year or two we keep an in state QB. We are finally relevant and it will finally payoff Quote
johnsoniu Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 We were solid with Stevens until PSU commit Brandon Wimbush flipped to Notre Dame. Then PSU had an opening. Checkmate. I hate freakin ND. Naturalhoosier 1 Quote

Cause he is one of the top QBs in his class, yeah we wanted Johnson Think I've mentioned this about 5 times now. He's a showcase/camp QB. But I might be wrong. Yes strong arm....good size. But the kid has been a starter for what 3 seasons now or 2. I love his family and love his effort. I live and grew up in Avon. My brother grew up with him..... Playing all sports together and camps and all that. However his highlight film is made up of mainly his only highlights. Yes, the argument is well that's what highlight tapes are for. However if you are lucky to watch a game in person..... His reads are not that of a top QB..... Decision making is not of a top QB. He is a great athlete. However I believe he might be a bust when it comes to development. There's a reason he transferred from Avon (yes peters was here. But basically him and peters battled it out and the kid did not take criticism well and from my understanding does have a tough time with that along with not being able to read defenses) I'm just saying.... I'd be happy if we did not get him. It's my opinion. If we get him awesome we kept an in state QB but I don't think he'd have a major impact and in all honesty..... I think Ramsey could beat him out if they were in the same class and both came in at the same time. Quote
