What would be on your IU Basketball Bucket List?

Recommended Posts

An absolute IU basketball highlight, in the summer of 2009, I sat in Assembly Hall watching the team in a pickup game.  The only other person in the Hall was my wife...who read a book the whole time.  She didn't understand the enormity of the situation.  I got to interact with the players...letting them know what time it was...telling Matt Roth he was on fire...passed an out of bounds ball to Watford as he called me "sir"...helping ref a charge/block call between Verdell and Dumes....it was amazing.

I'm sure every player on that team has forgotten but it was amazing to me.  That's IU basketball to the fans

Does it have to be Basketball, if it does, I'd like to see us win a Nat'l Championship, of course, but by beating Kentucky in the final. If it's football too, I'd like to see us win the Rose Bowl, and then the Championship as part of a playoff. But a bucket list item would be to attend a game at IU where we beat a ranked team off of a Buzzer Beater.

That would mean puke won enough games to get there. Forget that, I want to see them lose every game by 70 digits.

Then get caught cheating, again, get the death penalty, again, and have every one of their wins on history stricken from the books.

I would love to see my son don the Candystripes and run out of the players tunnel and into Assembly Hall.  Even as a walk-on or a Priller-esque role.  Just to watch him have a taste of the program would be the greatest thing ever.  I would be proud as hell to have my son be part of the #benchmob!

Go to a big atmosphere game with my Son and Daughter.

Be on the other line as my son calls and commits to Brad Stevens' Indiana Hoosiers

Watch Indiana Basketball hang a banner in my lifetime.

Experience watching IU with a once in a generation type coach.

Go to a final four in Indianapolis, in which IU is one of the 4 participants. (Imagine that atmosphere.)

Watch Tom Crean get an ovation as an opposing coach. That way he knows it was nothing personal and that we appreciated what he contributed to our program.

See Bob Knight humble himself by stepping foot in Assembly Hall one last time.

When we finished our basement i had iu basketball and college basketball in general in my mind. while the theater room isn't dedicated to iu basketball( it's the tv show lost themed), the room before you enter the theater is full of iu posters, pictures, and flags ( I even got a small iu Christmas tree and decorations for the room during the holidays). During construction of the theater room I had the construction workers put in 2 extra cable outlets on each side my projection screen.
Basically during the college basketball season I turn my theater room into a basketball room. I watch 3 games at a time unless iu is playing then I only have the iu game on the 136 inch movie screen. I'm 37 and still to this day on game day I rock the candy stripe pants and classic warmup shirt. Regardless of our record or who we play I still get nervous before watching almost every game.
I got my love for iu basketball from my dad and I will do my best to pass that love of iu basketball to my 4 year old son( who has candy stripes and my 2 year old daughter who has candy stripe overalls).
If I could have one bucket list thing regarding iu basketball happen, I'm sure other people who have lost a father that shared a bond over iu basketball would have the same wish ( I lost my dad 6 years ago) While I have been to a lot of games at assembly hall i never attended one with my dad. I would want to attend one game with him at assembly hall or watch one last iu game with him in my basement. I'm not sure if this is what you were wanting

I love you LIL BROTHER! Great way to start my morning. My bucket list would be for us shoot threes in the the hay barn and watch IU Purdue with dad and the Uncles in Grandmas living room like the old days.

1. See IU's non-conference schedule include a lot more local schools. We could have a top 25 SOS every year by scheduling (UK, Louisville, Butler, Notre Dame, Xavier, Cincinnati, Dayton, Marquettte and for personal reasons Evansville & Western Kentucky.

2. Would loved to have seen Ron Felling get a Head Coaching job in B1G after he and Bobby had their issue. Would have made for a great rivalry and Ron was a great coach in his own right.

3. Would like to have seen how things played out if Scott May didn't break his arm.

4. I would also like to see IU win it's 6th National Championship soon very soon!

Not sure if that would be more enjoyable than us beating them by 1 pt and the whole game hinged on a questionable foul call. I think their message boards would explode, and there would undoubtedly be an abundance of domestic abuse calls and single wide trailers lit on fire.

*Just let the record show I would take a National Championship anyway IU decided to win it*

It's Kentucky, basketball is about all they have.  Take that away and they wallow in misery in their pathetic excuse of a state, or commonwealth, or whatever they want to call themselves to feel like they matter.

This is an absolute great thread by the way!

  • Obviously a 6th banner please and thank you.  I would love to witness at least two more.
  • I would love to see old school recruiting again.  Good high school, hard nosed, fundamental players that want to play for IU (not the kids that have to reclassify, move to a different state prep school, AAU god).
  • Make basketball in general good again.  Growing up, I went to every high school basketball game home or away and my family scheduled things around that.  That was what made it special.  People in general do not care about basketball.  Look at the attendance.  I know the class system has deflated it and AAU, but I still love to go to a good high school basketball game.  I went to the state championship game when I was a senior and Damon Bailey dominated.  That was one of the best memories I have to date.
  • I love the Crossroads Classic (someone posted earlier).  This would be cool if it were a mini pre-conference tournament.  IU, PU, ND, Butler, Evansville, ISU, IUPUI, IPFW.  "The Battle for the State".  Who cares if we play PU three times in one season.  That is three wins!
  • Coach Knight walking on to Assembly Hall.  Enough said.
  • As a fan, to walk down the stairs past the wall of fame and sit in the lower section (against anyone) is a milestone.
  • Don Fischer lives to be 100 and calls the IU games until the last of days!!!  He is IU!!!
  • I want to see good IU college basketball players beat the following schools in the same season.  UK, PU, Duke, and KU.

I could go on but i'll stop for now.

Thanks Hutch!

to piggy back off Coop

Wish I could see the one and done NCAA rule gone, and I am not saying I want high schoolers to go pro. I am saying I want players to play 3 or even 4 years of college ball before they can leave.

On that topic, I'd love to hear Fisch call an IU game with *Mr. Enberg while they're both still around. For those that don't know, Enberg called IU FB and BB on the radio in the '60s.

* I typed Enberg's first name and my own idea bit me in the ass.  :103:
