If I asked you if a gold glove outfitter who is career .268 hitter and averages 16 HR, 58 RBI and 14 stolen bases a year worth 8 years and $200 million what would you say? I say heck no!

These are the career stats of Jason Heyward.

Heyward hits .311 and .376 OBP at Wrigley which is great. He is one of the best defensive outfielders in basbeball and hes 26 years old! His next 8 years are going to be the prime of his career! And as a cubs fan, anytime you can take away from the cardinals it is worth it.

But that's off Cubs pitching

True but that 2nd year where he batted .227 brought that down. The last 2 years he has been over a 6 WAR players. You don't see those players hit free agency. He steals bases. His minimal power would play at Wrigley well. I am not as worried about the RBIs because that's not his game. His glove would be great. His OBP is what we need in front of the power hitters. That's what I love about Zobrist over Castro. Our lineup with Heyward would be Zobrist and Heyward at the top. Followed by Rizzo, Bryant, and Schwarber. Then it would probably be a combo of Russell, Soler, and Montero. That is a pretty incredible lineup. If we have pitching I will be one happy mofo.

Heyward is doing better, and I think the Cards recognize that. I don't think he's worth that much right now, but his payday is based off defense and potential. He showed that with the Cards, and I think they will prove how much they want him back with a top contract.

I want Heyward back, not at that much, but Mo and Matheny have states multiple times signing Heyward is their main priority. Tells me they will sign him for a very big contract.

Orioles withdrew their offer to Chris Davis.  I'd love for the Astros to swoop in and snag him.  We need a solid 1B.  He's 30, so he's getting up there, but he's got probably 3 solid years left in him before he's a DH-lifer.  I wouldn't go higher than 7yr/$150m though.  Even that feels a little steep IMO.

You want to add another power hitting, strikeout hitter to that lineup full of exactly that?!?! :)

The Cards have been linked with Davis or Gordon in the event we don't land Heyward. Don't see us getting two because they want to keep a spot for Piscotty.

Sure why not. What else do 1Bs do. Nice thing about last year, no one griped about personal stats. They were aggressive at the plate and that leads to more Ks. But not a single person complained.
