Indiana vs Duke Game Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm making the drive to Cameron tomorrow morning from Btown! Can't wait!!

I will also be there. I have been in Cameron but this will be first game I have seen.
My excitement a few weeks ago has turned into "fear" :)
They have won 122 non-conference home games in a row, we have no defense and I hate to complain
about refs but the reality is if you are not up by 9 with a minute to go you are not winning at Cameron.
We need to come out hitting threes or it is going to be a long night.

Crean is complaining a little about the schedule but meanwhile the Duke-IU GAMEDAY thread is 6 pages 24 hours before the game even starts!!!
Maybe fans prefer games like this over the "Mississippi Valley State Institute of the over 40 year old Little Sisters of the Poor" games?

What did Crean say about the schedule?

Not sure if anything else was said but made comment last night post game " we have to be air tight in everything with our schedule "

Oh. I wonder how he meant it.

He's not wrong, especially after losing in Maui. We can't afford to blow any more big games and the Big Ten is always tough. Our schedule doesn't give a lot of real games so we can't lose the ones we have.

And losses with our schedule are terrible to the committee, we have almost the weakest schedule in the country, so every loss with this schedule is a bad loss.

you mean weakest out of conference schedule? Because at the end of the year after playing in the big 10 I would guess are overall sos will be top 50

Yeah, OOC schedule, my fault for not being clear. This year our OOC is projected in the 300s. Our Big Ten schedule is very weak this year too though. We'll end in the mid-70s at best. We were only 65th last year and had a much harder schedule.

according to this strength of schedule from last year we were 23rd in sos

RPI is a garbage ranking. The committee should be embarrassed to even pretend to use it. Overly simplistic and heavily penalizes teams for playing in weaker conferences even when they aren't weaker teams. Look at the OOC RPI and SOS in that chart. There is no world where Indiana's OOC RPI last year was top-50 and OOC SOS was top-100.

KenPom had us at 65.

Overall: .6361 65

i hear you but until the committee uses ken Pom, the rpi number is the only one that counts when it comes to comparing resumes to make the tournament

Truth. But, which SOS numbers we use don't change anything I said. Our schedule is tight if we want to comfortably get into the tourney this year. By losing in Maui we gave up two games against two high-level opponents and added two bad losses to our record. That makes later games much more important. If we enter Big Ten play at 9-4 it's going to be a very rough season.

Though again, I don't know if that's how Crean meant it. I think our schedule is too weak and doesn't prepare us for real games anyway. I still have no idea what this team looks like against real competition. I'll bet they feel the same way.

those might look like bad loses now but if those teams are in the top 100 rpi at end of the season those loses won't be bad loses according to the committee ( I still think they r bad loses just like e Washington last year rpi top 100 loss ). At the end of the day we r going to need to beat top level teams at some point in the schedule whether out of conference or in conference to build a resume.

I can see it being close, but I could also see it getting ugly if our "what's defense?" mentality travels to Cameron. I don't see us winning though, fortunately it won't be a bad loss since we already have 2 of those.

I agree with u. After our showing in Maui we should come out and play with an enormous chip our shoulders. And play with something to prove. Come on guys, as a team, show Hoosier Nation you care!!
