FWIW, supposedly he has been one of their best players in scrimmage. If true, Purdue could be VERY good. Top 10 quality.

Hopefully they start hearing that. We all know how Purdue usually does when they're expected to be great.

His stat line looked good, but honestly does that matter? Thomas Bryant looked like our best player at the HH scrimmage but I don't think anyone was blown away thinking how good we'll be.

I do expect Bryant to be one of our best. I know he will have up and down games and lacks explosiveness but he is a legit player. I think we as fans know that and so does the nation.

I guess what i'm trying to say is I just can't take anything away from a team scrimmage.

To be fair, he was practicing against Purdue players.  So of course he's going to look like one of their best players.

And Purdue will not be top 10.  Not even close.

Purdue scares me quite a bit this year. We are going to be the same type of team as last year, albeit improved in the front court. We saw what happened when our jumpers don't fall against that big line up. I think an experienced Hammons will eat TBs lunch this season. I expect us to lose to them pretty handily

TB provides what we were missing last year. We had nothing for them inside last year. We should be ok and if we are not count me as dissiapointed.

this sadly mirrors my thoughts. Davis locks down JB2. Their bigs eat us alive. Yogi too small to make layups. Nightmare matchup. Must win in transition.

Last year their bigs were impressive I must admit. If we are healthy when we meet I'm not worried at all this year.

If Troy can shoot now, who's guarding him? It's either gonna be Swanigan who's way too slow to stay in front of him or Hammons who will then have to leave the paint opening driving lanes.

and to think with how dominate their bigs were against our small lineup and getting out rebounded in assembly hall, iu even had a shot to tie the game with 5 secs.

I don't know, I definitely expect him to be better than Hanner both offensively and defensively. But one freshman against seasoned B10 big men makes me concerned especially with not much behind him

The freshmen thing I understand, but we don't play Purdue until the end of the year when Bryant has gotten 20 games or so under his belt. And freshmen outperform more seasoned players all the time nowadays.

I hope you're right. I think Bryant is super talented but Hammons knows the ins and outs of the league and is super skilled. Throw Haas in and we don't really have an answer. Max? Way undersized. JW? Not strong or tall enough.

Say Bryant outperforms freshman expectations, he's still the only legit front court defender we will have and teams will target him

Look at the bright side, we do have Bielfeldt. I know you say he's undersized but he's probably even better suited than Perea was. Didn't Perea only have like an inch taller on him? I bet Bielfeldt is probably significantly stronger than Perea though and can handle Hammons/Haas in the post better than Perea could.

I'll bet if someone cares to look we can even confirm this since he has played them in the past. That experience is really going to pay off in those situations and help TB better understand what he needs to do against that kind of size.

Purdue isn't a great matchup still, but I do really think we plugged the holes they used to sink us last year. They'll be tough games but totally doable.

Exactly, I don't think anyone would say our bigs are as talented as Purdue's and we're certainly going to have trouble matching up against them. However if Troy can actually shoot now, and it sure looked like he can at HH, Purdue is gonna have a tough time matching up with us as well.
