(2016) PF T.J. Leaf to UCLA

Recommended Posts
If I could map out 15/16 with a slight bit of realism I'd go:

15
Thon Maker
Juwan Morgan
Shake Milton

16
DeRon Davis
TJ Leaf
Kyle Guy
Eron Gordon

-----I'm skipping out on a lot of guys I'd still really like.
I swore I read Maker was staying in the 2016 class.

Jeff Goodman has since tweeted he wouldn't be surprised at all if Thon Maker reclasses to 2015.  He asked Zagoria about it, and Zagoria responded that he has no feel about it.

Thon was quoted that it was 'not likely' but he is still looking at which school he'll play at which will go a long way in determining if he reclasses.

I think he is doing everything in his power to reclass behind the scenes.  Time will tell but I am holding onto hope and other professionals believe it may still happen too.

Albers was the first one to break the news that it was "unlikely" the last eval period on July 23rd and the rest of the big boys followed him. We shall see.
If he does commit to Duke, it isn't the end of IU recruiting. It isn't worth a "sky is falling" thread. We move on to the next one.

I guess I'm frustrated by the posts that say how terrible we are at recruiting after somebody commits elsewhere, after four straight top 10 recruiting classes. If Leaf goes to Duke, we'll get somebody else comparable in the recruit rankings. No reason to claim that Purdue will outrecruit us (blasphemy and I'll bet heavily against it).

That said, come to IU Leaf! We're awesome.
You would think with 4 top 10 classes in a row we would be in a pretty good spot right now. That is the primary problem and the fuel for the complaints.

@AdamZagoria FYI - Thon also told me and @jeffborzello he was unlikely to reclassify. I still would not be surprised if he ends up in 2015.

2012 was a top 10 class in numbers only too, we've gotten absolutely nothing out of that class outside of one player.  That's part of the problem.

Or it could help people see that there is a trend here.  There are a lot of uncommitted, highly ranked kids.  Many of which will be available when we're taking commits.  I swear some people are just "glass half empty" people.
My #1 hopeful for 2016. Many others I'm excited about too. Dukes involvement is scary to me. His friendship? with Kyle Guy coulda been an extra boost in our direction but based on recent reports it may be the exact opposite!
Mine is De'Ron Davis. TJ is close as well though. I think I'm looking for an elite PG first.

I think we've got a great trend with recruiting classes.  We have many needs in other areas, I just don't understand why this is an area that gets bashed.  I'd bet we still end up with a top 15 class.

The trends are showing that we aren't getting much from all of these top classes we are getting.

I am not following you. I may not have been too clear though. I would have thought after having four top ten classes we would have been in a more competitive position on the court right now.

Last year was bad and with recruiting success like we have had over the last four years the cupboard should not have been so bare. This year we may bounce back but it is looking like a fringe NCAA team.

We did have 2 good years, 1 bad year and perhaps an average year this year. Seems underachieving overall considering we had 4 great classes in a row.

I think this is true, but is a different subject than I've been talking about here.

So is it fair to say we'll get a good recruiting class but underperform?

My son out in Los Angeles says Alford is going after Leaf very strongly. I would love to have Leaf here and thought his parents' Indiana connections might help us but right now my guess is he will go to AZ or UCLA.

He's looking to commit in Feb/Mar. Let's hope we have proved ourselves by then, and if so, those two teams or any other ones will have a challenge. I think he's ours to lose..
