IU and the Maui Classic 2015

Recommended Posts

Well went to take the plunge to buy a ticket..tickets went on sale at 9:00am here in Maui and as of like 9:01 they were sold out. The website wouldn't function properly to purchase anything and the box office phone rang busy till about 10. Guess ill be watching the games in my hotel room all week haha

If people can sneak into the super bowl with ease, then you can surely be resourceful enough to get into that High School Gym. I believe in you.

Look for scalp tickets

They will definitely have them. I don't know how they're sold, but I assume people will have bought tickets for later games and may not have teams in the games they bought for. Especially for big packages. They'll have no interest in keeping those tickets. Check the Maui Tourney site and see if they have an official ticket exchange/sale site too.

That's what my friends and I always did for the Big Ten Tourney. Each day you can buy plenty of tickets scalped from people who weren't going to the next day.

Depending on who we play, and how we play, we could have a legitimate shot at being a top 5-10 team at weeks end. Parity this year is greater than in many years past that I can remember. We've already seen 4-5 top 10 teams lose early. I have taken a lot of heat early on for thinking this team was a top 5 team but I stand by it. If Thomas Bryant stays out of foul trouble and defends, I dont see many matchups that I like over us. Kentucky, Maryland, and Purdue. That's it. Maybe Gonzaga.

Did you have to say Turdue ?

All joking aside, they will give us fits, but we have them at home and owe them more than one.

Watching Ky I will say they are really good but also think the Blue Devils may have been over hyped a little.

Don't see many scorers on that team other than Allen and he really struggled with the athleticism the Cats threw at him.

I actually would love to play UK. Skal is one of their best players but TB can hang with him and I don't think Skal is capable of stopping Bryant on the block. Our perimeter D would be a weakness but I don't see them stopping us on the perimeter either. It'd be a great game.

Murray is going to be a problem for everyone.I hate to complement them but their back court with Him, Ullis and Briscoe looks scary good.

I've watched a lot of MD basketball this year because they're in my Top 5 teams. I'm curious, what is it specifically you think they match-up well with us on? I know it's early and still hard to tell, but they have most of the same weaknesses as last year, they just improved their strengths. They're not a particularly physical team and they prefer to play at a medium pace and are vulnerable to other teams setting the pace for them. The sample size is still crazy small, and we play them so late in the season that the teams won't even look the same, but I feel like we match-up pretty well.

Kentucky is so unlike any other team it's hard to even know.

Purdue, well, if we get to play Vandy during this tourney we'll know how we can do against Purdue. Vandy plays even bigger and their bigs are better. I am interested to see how we handle that kind of size this year.

Just to be clear: I'm not saying we cant beat these teams. I just think they pose matchup issues.

Maryland: Their Guards match up with us very well. I think they are a better defensive unit. They have a 5* Center (I think TB is better) but I really like Carter over Max B. Layman and Troy are washes. If we had Devin Davis, Hanner Perea and Holt, we'd be nearly identical teams.

Purdue: They are much more dangerous than Vandy IMO. I went back and watched their entire game last night (Vandy) and although they are big, they aren't nearly as elite up front as Purdue. Purdue can really defend the rim AND stretch you out to the perimeter with Swanigan. Purdue's wings can shoot and their guard play is under rated. Cline can really really shoot it.

Kentucky:  I think they have the best backcourt in CBB. They are us on steroids. Ullis is actually quick enough to stay in front of Yogi. We have no one that can guard Murray. Skal and TB would be a great head to head but UK's frontcourt is deep and could get TB into foul trouble. I too would love to play them.....IF they indeed played at our pace. No one in the nation better at the game we play.

This is where I'm at with this. I'll also say that if we get through Wake and Vandy, we win Maui. I dont think Kansas can run with us or defend us. They struggle to score as well. Seldon is a beast but JB would just have to force him to shoot jumpers. There isn't a guard on Kansas' roster that Yogi Ferrell wouldn't eat alive. I read somewhere that he absolutely dominated head to head against Frank Mason and Monte Morris at Adidas Nations, this past summer. Yogi, Troy, and TB were on the same team and handily beat the squad with Mason, Morris, Wiltjer, and Seldon... Let that sink in. We are underrated by a big margin IMO. There are not 13 teams in America better than us.

Hell, while I'm at it....... I ALSO think we beat Duke at Cameron. I'm not sold on the Dukies at all. They have a lot of young talent but they arent even close to being capable of doing what last seasons team did (Sorry BlueDevil.)  Our biggest obstacle to overcome there will be Cameron itself. We haven't played in an environment like that on the road. Yogi has, when he was a frosh against MSU in E. Lansing, but this is new to all of our young men. Duke's team is vastly overrated IMO. We have better guards, we have a better big man, and I'll take a 3 year veteran Troy Williams against a frosh string bean Ingram any day of the week (Ingram's upside is ridiculous though.)  Amile Jefferson is the only guy that worries me.

No issues here Trav we look vulnerable early. Not comfortable with our starting 5 at all together. I do think by seasons end they will have it figured out but nows the time to get em. IU looks strong so far. No doubt in my mind they can run through Maui and beat everyone's ass even Kansas if they shoot well and play defense.

I agree 100%. Kentucky is getting far too much love for beating Duke bc Duke is overrated this season. I understand why though. they have K and a great class. They get the benefit of the doubt in most all cases.

They have the greatest cbb coach of all time on their sidelines. They'll be just fine mid-late season. I personally think Thornton needs to start and Plumlee needs to come off the bench. Play smaller and you'll thrive.

Yep I want Thornton to start bad but I understand why they are holding him back and letting him catch up to speed ref his reclassification. He looks promising. I wish Obi would get some run. Plumlee is extremely limited on offense but his effort makes up for it. Ingram needs to step up as well he should be dominating with his size. I can't wait for the matchup.

Looks like Kansas suspended Greene could have implications for the Classic.  Even if they do still make it to the final game their starters will probably have to play more minutes against the first 2 teams

Yea, and Diallo can travel but still not cleared to play.

@IndianaMBB: “Iced Out” uniforms for our first two games at the @MauiInv.

I guess I'm just too wrapped up in tradition. I hate it when they mess with the uniforms. Even hate all the supposedly "spiffy" and "flashy" football helmets.

Guess you could list me as a thumbs down on those uniforms.
