I'm not sure Hartman or holt or Hanner guarding a guard is a mismatch that does us any favors. I get that yogi plays hard and I admire that, but to your point it may not be an execution fault...a poor coaching fault it is. There is no way our smallest player guarding an opponents biggest player is an advantage to us.

This team is flawed, and that is not creans fault entirely. Luke leaving hurt us bad. There is still IMO no excuse for this team to rank so bad defensively. No matter how small they are. They can be fun to watch at times...when the shots are falling. Luckily most games are played at home going forward

Switching screens lands yogi guarding the 5 spot. That is avoidable. I understand that we are undersized, but that is no excuse for bad defense in general. Bigs are going to score on us. There is no excuse for dumb mismatches and open driving lanes.

I am glad we got the win today. Don't get me wrong about that. It is just frustrating watching sloppy poorly coached basketball, and rationalizing why it's ok. It's not ok. If the big wasn't way down this season we wouldn't be sniffing the tourney again.

this is my point. I hate giving up easy deuces on post mismatching. I'm not faulting Yogi, as he fights his arse off, but he shouldn't switch in these circumstances. Or switch and do a quick re-switch with nearest tall defender.

Just saw this on another site and thought it was pretty funny.
Before I get Jumped I don't totally agree but........

I have a theory about why we are such a confident offensive team. It's because we get to play against our defense in practice every day..

in my best Larry the Cable Guy "I don't care who you are, that's funny ish, right there!"

Albert drove to the basket in the last minute and drove around Hartman. He was not touched but he got the and 1 for a three. How poor is that for refereeing.

i would assume that the phantom foul on that play would be the poor refereeing

I believe it was the ref anticipating Troy was going to smack Albrecht but he completely missed him.  There was so much space between Z and Albrecht you could fit a pu cheerleader in there.

Doyle is still moving on this 'block' call.......

They missed so many other calls too.  I believe Blackmon picked up two offensive fouls that weren't really close either.  It truly felt like the refs were trying to keep um in the game.  IU helped with that but they also made some damn good plays that were called wrong.

After watching the other B1G games, I was much less impressed with our efforts. Iowa looked great (fort he second straight game) in pummeling Maryland...that's the home game I fear most because on any given night Iowa can beat anybody. Ohio State looked great at Rutgers. I'm glad we got our home game with them in when we were playing well.

Hanner was totally lost. Hopefully he'll be somewhat effective by next Sunday (Minnesota has some size) but really Purdue and Iowa are the games we'll need him most...and we have a couple of weeks before those games so maybe he can put it back together.

CTC mentioned mental fatigue after the game. It sure looks like we are going through that big-time. A lot of standing around on offense, an occasional blown assignment leading to an easy one for them on defense.  And so often we don't "value the ball" and wind up doing something stupid. Even Yogi's dribbling balls off his knees now and then...and he shouldn't be fatigued at all since this is his third year and he should have the stamina by now. Maybe it's a virus and Yogi's hanging out too much with Stan? I can understand fatigue more with the younger guys who have never had this many hours of practice and games in the past. RoJo appears to be the poster child for it at the moment...without time to get set his shot is off every time whereas earlier on he was able to make those shots off the dribble or with a hand in his face.

I just hope we can ramp it up Wednesday. Beating Maryland at Maryland is a win that would push us up a full seed in the NCAA, plus it would really put us in a catbird seat for a bye in the first round of the B1G Tournament. Fortunately for us Maryland is in a real funk, but, then, so are we. Maybe playing the team we played the best against all year will help. I hope so.

I'm telling u guys, college basketball is quasi big time wrestling. There is a reason things are so crazy in march and at times during the season. Ratings go through the roof when games turn into nail biters. The refs influenced as they could to make things interesting. Same thing just happened for us at Wisconsin. They let yogi get away with at least 4 blatant shove offs just to assist us getting somewhat back into that game. The closer I watch this scenario, the more I start to believe the conspiracy. Whatever team needs the assist, they will get just so the games stay interesting.

I prefer to call it "Mario Kart Syndrome." The refs start handing out blue shells when the lead opens up too much.

Most will blow this off but I've been saying the same thing for about five years now.

glad someone else has noticed this developing in the last few years. It really becomes more and more obvious the closer I pay attention. I get it though. Makes for great business. Definitely makes things interesting

We always here mental fatigue this time of year and then we start trending down nearly every season under Crean. Why?

I agree no excuse for such horrible defense. I mean a guy can get hot on you from time to time but seriously 240 ish D1 teams are better at it than us. Good D is really just about focus, effort and pay attention to the scouting report.
