Florida football coach Jim McElwain quoted Keynes to explain rebuilding a historic blue blood program: "The difficulty lies not in the new ideas, but in escaping the old ones."

Food for thought re: IU basketball.

I agree. Nearly every single person I talk IU basketball is frustrated and wants to move on. Literally the only person I've had to debate in regards to keeping Crean is my fiancee's uncle, who happens to be a Purdue fan. I think it speaks volumes that our rivals fans actually want Crean to stay at Indiana as long as possible. They're having a blast with him patrolling the IU sidelines.

my Wisconsin friend joked that Bo had his guys ease up at the end as he didn't want to get too greedy and get Crean fired as he loves whipping the floor with him each year and often times twice a year

wouldn't put it past him considering how he handled the post game presser. Really mocked Crean with subtleties.

really? Difficulties, questions, excuses and such arise when said Blueblood program isn't winning like it previously had. Winning erases the Haters and thus the need to make statements like the one you posted.

Okay. "Winning erases the haters." Thanks for that. Really says a lot. If that were true, there wouldn't be such a chicken little attitude here. If you guys haven't noticed, we are in the tournament and gearing up for a run this year and/or next year. Of course, that could be ruined by NBA early entry. Never should have recruited those NBA caliber players. We really need more white 3 stars with Hoosier smarts.

I really just thought that was interesting in reference to what many were discussing regarding whether IU can/will be a dominant program in the future. Didn't think it was going to cause you to interpret it as an excuse. Did not think that was possible but Wayne you can sunshine pump or jump off a cliff with the best of 'em. And I can always tell which you is here, just have to look at the schedule!

For sure. I haven't spoken to any IU fans in NYC but there is definitely a rapidly growing mob here in Indiana. All you have to do is go to a game at AH and listen to the amount of fans who boo him during the game.

The amount of cheers largely outweigh the amount of boos. Just saying.

This IU deal is a very interesting topic to discuss. I find myself wondering what's going to happen with the Duke program once Coach K hangs it up. I don't think he has much longer than 5 more years in Durham. I ask myself... Will Duke survive and thrive? Who do they get? I'll worry about it then just trying to enjoy what left of what I have left of coach K but maybe Duke fans will have a thread similar to this someday. Who knows.

It really depends who you talk to. Most of my friends from college are in the camp of wait and see what happens this year and next. I would say the same about most IU fans I talk to when I go out to bars in NYC.

I haven't found a place or talked to anyone with the anti-Crean fervor that I see on here.

Have we spoken in a bar about IU basketball? I'm one of the few wait-and-seers I know in NYC.

I agree with this. We dont need to look back to the 70s and 80s success so much as we need look to what top programs are doing now and get to it. You business guys out there know the importance of setting goals. I dont know what we are shooting for here. 2013 we win the B1G and make a sweet sixteen. Was that the goal at that time? If it was and we accomplished it you set another goal higher, right? What is the goal now? Just squeak into the tourney? We seem to have lost our direction. If I'm Glass I set a goal for the program to be in  Final Four within 5 years. Then go about taking the steps to get there. Do you need to upgrade your recruiter to get the players you need? Do it. Upgrade assistants? Do it. Upgrade the head coach? Do it. Do what it takes to reach your goal. This is what successful organizations do to win.

I'm sure it will be handled a hell of a lot better than IU has handled the last 15 years. Probably more along the lines of UNC getting Roy.

most of it is age relative to be honest. The younger fans, college and below are much more forgiving towards Crean because he has been better than Sampson and Davis. Those of us who have witnessed the greater history are much tougher on Crean. I find AGE to be the biggest determining factor. This board mimics this observation, for the most part.

Totally agree on the age thing. But the cheers I'm hearing aren't coming from the student section necessarily. He isn't getting a standing ovation by any means, but when he gets announced, there is a...smattering?...of cheers for him.

Yea, I have to check myself sometimes because to some posters 2002 is their glory year and some now dont even remember that.

no need to make it personal. Just like any fan/fanatic, I am admittedly emotional. I get my hopes up with every season and with every win. I could be converted BACK into a Crean supporter with CHANGES, and better recruiting.

I want to admire and respect the coach of the program I love. My inner fan roots for IU to be winners and respected. Unfortunately, I get let down by Crean more often than the alternative. And he isn't giving me great hope for the future, sadly.

I wonder how much people factor in creans efforts. I really think crean is giving 210% as the coach of a indiana no matter how bad of a coach I think he is. I don't know of a coach in the country that works harder than Coach Crean or wants it as bad as Coach Crean.

I don't get it... Are you related to Crean?

Just because the dude looks at situation differently than it doesn't mean you have the right to say stuff like this. Same as the other side should never question your fandom when you are negative. This does nothing to further the conversation. It's not that hard.
