Line up when Hanner gets healthy

Recommended Posts

I'm not buying that...  He would be out there supporting his teammates, unless he was being disciplined for some reason.

Crean did the same with Troy and Stan at the beginning of the season too.  I just can't find that realistic that you'd have an injured Junior center in the locker room during a game this big.

I like this line up when we can pull it off. I think we need Hanner for bigger teams like Purdue and maybe Iowa. Hartman can't defend Hammons or Haas.

Let me get this straight; he can defend Dodd and Layman, but he can't defend Haas or Hammons, and Hanner somehow can?

Disagree.

Honestly, I truly believe Crean will handle this on a game-to-game basis (as he should!). There are certain teams in the B1G where a stretch 5 is going to wreck havoc (Purdue comes to mind, let's see Hammons defend the perimeter) but I think there's a handful that will keep us too honest and effectively neutralize our stretch advantage (Iowa/Wisconsin specifically come to mind).

Either way, Hartman is making it clear to the team, the fans, and the B1G at large what relentless, intelligent basketball can do. Ride the horse that's hot.

Hanner will have to earn his way back.

I would be extremely disappointed if Hanner is simply handed the starting role back.  Except for a few spots here and there his contributions haven't been nearly as significant as has Holt's (based on minutes played) and certainly not as significant as what we've gotten from Hartman the past several games.  I think we've ridden high expectations for Hanner far too long.

It's actually a really smart move by Crean to have Hartman start at the 5. Yeah we give up size on defense but we also draw away the opponents biggest defender from the paint with his range. What I loved was seeing Hartman take their bugs off the dribble once they stepped out to guard him. Stick with what we have and if we are getting beat down low then we can bring in Hanner to help. I'm really appreciating this team this year. They are so much fun to watch. I'd rather watch this offense than throwing it down low and trying to see our bigs score 1 on 3.
