Just because the dude was 6'9" and looking to transfer all of the sudden everyone thought this guy was a stud. I said at the time this kid wasnt what we needed dont sweat it. Same goes for the 7 foot kid Matta got (Trevor???). No game changers by any means. As someone else pointed out Giddens is the one we really missed on.

Nobody will ever be able to sell Thad Matta to me. If we had to hire a new HC, hes about #20 on my list. He wins because he can recruit skilled players. And it works at a major football school. At Indiana, we are a traditional basketball power and should be winning even more than Matta does at OSU.

How? Matta wins and competes with the big boys every year. Crean recruits skilled players and doesn't achieve the same level of success. Matta is no Coach K, but he's a very good coach. How does the fact that they are a major football school help recruiting more than being a major basketball school like Indiana? As a traditional basketball school, we should theoretically be recruiting better, but it will fall to coaching whether we're winning or not.

Honestly, I think "traditional" is what hurts IU recruiting more than anything. I'm all for traditional and I appreciate how IU has held steadfast in their jerseys with no names but times are changing. A simple jump from adidas to Nike can benefit our recruiting. Now I'm not saying we should become UK but a lot of these kids these days don't care about "tradition" anymore. They weren't even born during the glory days so to state simply IU should be recruiting better because of our tradition is moot.

I like our uniforms just fine. If they wanna wear Nike shoes, than we can still sign with Nike. Jordan would be cool too.

not trying to take a stab at you at all, but yes, you might like the traditional jerseys. However, kids these days want what is flashy. Jerseys, shoes, etc. the traditional aspect appeals to the fans 10x more than it does these college recruits who want what is "cool" at the time. An alternate jersey here and there would be awesome to me and could possibly help a little bit with recruits

We are agreeing more and more, which is a good thing. It makes me think maybe Indiana basketball may be lining up to make a run this year. I think your comments are spot on and applaud where you feel you not only need to recruit at a high level but coach also. To think Matta is anything but a great coach is short sighted at best. Yes, he is a great recruiter. There's no gray areas; it takes a combo of both both regardless of how one feels personally. Good post.

. yeah I'm all for supporting Crean, but I won't try to discredit a much better coach. Crean has proven he can recruit at a high level like Matta. Crean has had some bad luck and misses resulting in roster issues. Regardless, given the same roster, Matta wins more games than Crean.

Definitely agree, IU seems to be gearing up for a run in feb and March. These kids, and coach, are making adjustments and learning from every game.
