Thinking out loud about our big man situation....

My sectional and regional was in huntingburg's gym (I played at Forest park) every year. We also played Southridge there every other year so I got to experience that gym quite a bit. Balled there 20+ times. It was by far my favorite place. Also got to play in boonville's gym a few times as well. Also a really cool gym

My wife is a FP grad, but long before your time.

My last question for you ou812dude is-----did you experience and do you remember one class basketball?

I have seen them both----and there is no comparison in my opinion.

But---I respect your opinion---class basketball does give small schools a better chance to win state titles.

I played during the classless (no pun intended) years...

as I have mentioned...I played for Borden (now class A)...

the years I played Varsity...we played in either the Floyd Central or New Albany Sectionals...

and the 3 years that I played Varsity we drew Charlestown(3A), New Albany (4A), and Henryville (1A at the time, they are now 2A)...lost by 35, 42, and 3 points respectively...

the greatest team of all time at Borden (class of 1992, 2 years after my graduation)...had to play Jeff High (the eventual state champion) and lost by 30...

there is no plausible reason for tiny schools to be playing mega consolidated schools in the state tournament...at any level...

that's my stance and I'm sticking with it!

class basketball is just what is needed...

I mean...we have class College Basketball...D1, D2, D3, NAIA...

and it works perfectly...

why shouldn't we do the same for High Schools?

d1 d2 d3 naia aren't based on the size of the university like High school sports are.

Butler is smaller than a lot of non-d1 schools and Duke sure wouldn't be in the big boys group.

no, they aren't...

nor should they be...

being that Universities and High Schools recruit on different levels...I'm sure that you will respect that disparity...

edit: let's not forget...recruiting at the High School level isn't legal...

I don't mind consolidated schools, but I hate private schools in class basketball. Evansville Mater Dei and Fort Wayne Luers have made a mockery of "2a". And Yogi benefited from Park Tudor  the same way.

It's not class basketball in the same way. It's class colleges and universities.

No high school should recruit. I get that Bedford should be able to kick the entire basketball team out of school and then walk into classrooms and pick a new team from more talent than Orleans should be able to, but competing with Bedford is a heck of a lot more enjoyable than competing with Shoals.

it's interesting to me...

as a former High School baller from Southern Indiana...

that you mention Orleans and Bedford as your examples...

Shoals may not be a perennial basketball power---but they have a cool nickname---The JugRox!

In person---I haven't really seen an elite team yet this year.

Right across the river in Owensboro, KY--Apollo is supposed to have some players.

Rebel...right across the bridge?? Are you a South Spencer boy? If so then you can tell these guys about the teams in the early 90's SS had that went to 2 or maybe 3 Semi-State finals in the single class system. I think they got beat by Bloomfield one year which is a small school, and I may be wrong about this but I think they went on to win it all? Also lost to Sheron Wilkerson in the Semi-State finals one year by about 6 points and didn't have their best player (Kent Ayer) in that game. All of this is just from my poor memory so don't crucify me if I am wrong.
