Thinking out loud about our big man situation....

I've always liked the sunken gyms.

Huntingburg Memorial Gymnasium. It is where the 2A Southridge Sectional is held. just south of Jasper, IN. Very cool gym. I played there back in the day. My first two years of high school ball were single class and our Sectional was held in Boonville. My Jr and Sr year when they went to the class system our Sectional was held in Huntingburg at this gym. Very cool. I got to play in the old Roberts Stadium (University of Evansville's home court) before they tore it down, but we never made it past Regionals so the great Hinkle Fieldhouse eluded my playing career.

I remember when I was a sophomore in high school New Albany played Floyd Central at Seymour on their way to the state title.
I was in awe at how big it was.Felt like a collegiate setting.
Also took my granddaughter to Washington to see Cody Verses Princeton his senior year.Wow what a game and what a fine old gym.We were there 40 minutes before tip off and barely made it.
There's nothing like walking out of the cold winter night into the warmth, the smell of fresh popcorn and the sound of a high school band pumping energy into the air. Almost gives me chills thinking about it.

Don,Ron,& Jalen vs Cody and crew had to be a great game. I saw both teams play that year, but not each other.

I've been to Boonville and Huntinburg's gyms. They are both really nice. Huntingburg also has League Stadium, which is a great old baseball field.
Back before class basketball it was BHS, SSHS, HHHS, Tecumseh, and ?, at the Boonville Sectional.

All this talk about youth and high school basketball, and the gyms around this state that hold such great passion for bball is why the hoosiers are the best. Yeah we'll have some down years, but you can't beat the culture and passion of fans in this state.

Princeton. I played against Ryan Owens, a real good player that went on to play @ Tennesee-Martin then finished up at USI under Bruce Pearl.

The twins were players .Hell of a game but Washington took them in a close one.
What became of those two?

I work with a guy from Princeton and he told me they started at a school in Cincy, but left before they played. Then they went to a school in OK and played a year. I think that was it for Don. Ron transferred to Wabash Valley then Indiana Tech. This should be his sr year, but while checking some Oakland City University scores I saw his name on the Toranatto Tire All Star team.

I loved the Boonville sectional---- that place rocked----I remember when the great South Spencer team went through there with Kenny Perry on the way to the semi-state and was unbeaten---25 and 0---until Terre Haute South with Cam Cameron and Thompson knocked them off in a thriller. Both those high school teams had front lines bigger than IU's. That was something to see.

Huntingburg gym is great too.

I've watched many baseball games at Huntingburg's league stadium which is where they filmed "A League of Their Own" with Madonna----it still looks like an old fashioned ballpark

----chair back seats--- it's like you've walked back in time. A great place to relax and watch a game. The Dubois County Bombers semi-pro team plays there too.

Good times.

Rebel, the bombers are actually a summer wood bat collegiate league. The Dragons were there from '96 to '02. They were an independent baseball team. They were in the Heartland league till '98, then the Frontier league from '99 until they were sold. I actually played for the Dragons for two seasons. I got paid $850 a month. Sure didn't make much money, but played a lot of ball and made a lot of good memories.

My bad----I've never seen them play---we go to Evansville to watch the Otters and St. Louis to watch the Cardinals.

I bet you do have great memories----can't put a price tag on that! :good:
