Coach Jackson to Kansas

Recommended Posts

It's called diplomacy. Politics. Sour grapes if he went complaining and whining.

Oh I agree and don't fault Jackson for leaving or Crean for his gratuitous statement. It's rather obvious by the I'll timing there's more to it other than it's football offseason and really not hard to figure it out. Just before the Big starts says it all.

I don't fault Jackson or Kansas because of what you stated. But it goes to show how much respect he has for Crean by leaving even before the Big season. This isn't like a coach leaving before a bowl game; its like an employee saying screw you to a two weeks notice. If Kansas really wanted him which I'm sure they did and Jackson said "look, we're going into conference play can you manage without me til March". Chances are rather high it all gets worked out so all parties don't get hurt. Well, who gets hurt with him leaving now? Its not him or Kansas but Indiana basketball.

Don't you think JJ received Crean's blessing before accepting the job? You're leading a witch hunt trying to find some dirt, but this was probably just like any other job change. JJ received the offer, talked to his boss, and received permission to leave and accept his new permission. Boss thanks him for his great work and publicly praises him for it. All are happy.

Is there a good time for someone to leave? If he left during summer, you'd say the season is approaching; In the fall, conference play; winter, the tournament; spring, recruits want to meet you and like you.

One day you'll read the signs or maybe the big sign will need to fall and hit you on the head. Either way, within 3 years from now, or much much sooner, you'll look back and say "but it was so obvious, how did I miss that?" Or not.

The "signs" are poor seasons and missed tournaments. Assistant coaches and the likes moving on to higher paying jobs at currently more successful programs and programs that better suit their personal goals as a coach will never cause me panic. Unless you have facts to back up that the two departures are substantially abnormal or are due to other reasons not made public, you all are just making broad assumptions that fulfill what you want to believe to be true.

Chances are rather high?  How can you act like you know the details of this situation?  You have no idea how this all went down.

Just like anyone else who posts on this message board. If I was actually in the know like someone within the program, I would be running for the hills like everyone else or at least updating my resume. What u say?

I don't see anybody else giving details about what was said, or how it went down.  Everyone is running for the hills?  Really?

Hey lunatic fringe, it's not as bad as you say.  Jackson took a promotion.

They say in the business world, a manager strives to get everybody beneath him promoted.  That's the sign of a good manager.  Assistants getting promoted under Crean is a sign of a coach hiring good people and helping develop them into better positions.

But you can keep the tin foil hat and assume everybody else is freaking out too.

Sure, KU football isn't as big as IU basketball.. and i'm curious if they really do generate more revenue.  However, I would think that being the director of strength and conditioning for a football sized roster would definitely entail more salary for JJ, just based on the sheer number difference of student athletes that he would be responsible for.   He's definitely a football guy and used to work for KU football for 5 years (just a bit longer than his tenure here at IU), so it's not like he isn't familiar with the place or some of the staff there.  It probably feels a bit like coming home for him, who knows!

Isn't the basketball offseason technically JJ's onseason as strength coach? I kind of think it's better for him to leave now versus April or May. Let the new guy come in and make the players offseason strength plan now so it's ready for the offseason which is when the strength coach really does the work.

Hey Josh, you will have to get in line to call me names; it's never enforced here unless you call the head coach one. Guess I'm entitled to my opionion just as you since this is a message board. I don't take any comments personal like many here. I did find amusing your relating Crean to a good manager. Obviously wins and job performance isn't one of your qualifications. I will give you props for your picture of a great SC raised coach. I think he would do a fine job as Crean's replacement.

Lol... I had a long response typed out, but it's not even worth it... One thing I have noticed as a mod over the years that is pretty interesting. Typically the people who complain about mod inactivity are the same ones hurling insults out of the other side of their mouth... You know? Crean apologist, too tan tommy, purdue lover, idiot, etc... Then when someone comes back at us when someone says something that bothers them.

This isn't directly at you. This is to both sides. If you throw it out there then sack up to the response. If you post in a polarizing way expect polarizing responses. If it gets to be too much we will let you know. We are not the thought police...
