GREAT game plan by Coach Crean

Recommended Posts

I agree Coach Crean deserves credit for that game. Our team is going to be incredibly fun to watch this year.

In regards to your last paragraph, is it Crean adjusting the scheme to the roster? Or the roster being a better fit for Crean's scheme? I think it is probably a little bit of both.

I think this is well deserved for coach. I don't know what has changed, if anything, but I thought on Monday during his preview for Pitt, "what's going on with Crean? Everything he said made sense." Crean pressers typically wear me out. Following his line of thought is like trying to keep track of a squirrel in a hickory tree. Then last night he had the guys ready to go and they played pretty well and it's hard not to be moved by the emotion he has for the team and players in the post game presser. Maybe, he's just being real? Here's to hoping he has this team playing their best ball in March.

I agree it was fun to watch last night.  Great game plan and great to see Holt on the court playing well.  It's all going to come down to toughness on the glass.  This team can score with anyone.  We'll see in the next few weeks........

How dare you 41?!? Lol

Coach did great last night. Only thing I critiqued was I felt he needed to call a timeout when Pitt started coming back in the 2nd half. He needed to calm the guys down and get something together for them.

However, this was a great game from coach, and he deserves the credit. I think last nights win has a lot of people excited. Not because of who we beat, but because of how we played!

Pshhhhh.....whatev!  Crean get's no credit.  I'm giving credit to the Assembly Hall maintenance team who obviously made the cylinders smaller on the Pitt's offense side of the floor.  It's the only reason why the missed a myriad of open 3's and IU walked away w/out a loss.

I read the sarcasm up top... But then I read the the bottom part sarcastically as well and now I'm confused if I should punch myself or not...

I will give Crean some credit for last nights win, but not all as there were still some questionable things, such as sub patterns and timeout usage that I did not particularly think was good.

As far as the game plan and how we attack them, he should get credit for that. We attacked the rim and did some good things offensively and defensively last night. That was good to see.

Our zone offense while more effective than its been, was still not very good at times but there was some progress.

The one thing I will definitely disagree with you on is the scheme. He has never shown the ability or desire to fit the scheme to his players. He has the players offensively to run his system for the most part. However it's still a system that is flawed and relies too much on individual ability and unless he has the perfect player at each position creates defensive deficiencies. Defense is a whole other story though.

I still don't think he is the solution long term, but he does deserve some credit for last nights game. While I am critical of him, I will say good job to Coach AND the players for last nights game.

100%. I felt, oh here we'll take a TO and calm down. Nope! 8 points or so later I was shaking my head.

That was the best zone offense I've seen from one of Crean's teams at IU.  The defense was certainly better as well.  A lot of the difference came from improved effort (which Crean gets credit for in my book).  Our rebounding issues will likely linger, but I think if we get Hartman and Holt more time we will see our defense improve to some extent.  Consistent effort will probably be the key this year, because our shots won't always fall.
