Magnanimous

The holes in this roster are baffling

Haas would not have come here, and I would go so far as to guarantee he never looked at IU. He chose Purdue specifically because of their engineering program.

I wasn't saying he would have just pointing out that them idiots landed a seven footer while we needed one and didn't get anything. Sorry if it sounded that way

No worries. I just remembered reading that article a while back and wanted to clear it up in case anyone thought we really had a shot at him.

The biggest shame is, IF Yogi returns next year, we will have had 4 years with a premiere point guard and Crean having roster management problems for 3 of those years.  I feel sorry for Yogi, he must be frustrated beyond belief.  If we had Noah Vonleh or Trey Lyles (or hell-even Hammons or Haas (only partly joking))  this year we are a top 10 team or better.  I genuinely feel that way.

IMO, we owe Yogi a Center that can play and defend like a center.  Crean needs to make it happen, no excuses.

Poor guy gets one year with zero shooters and another year with zero post defense.  The roster management inadequacies are embarrassing.  But we add Priller, Ziesloft, April, and Holt.  4 Roster spots right there.  You've got to be kidding me.

How does Crean RIP hanner in post game so regularly then do nothing about it? How does he get a dui, apparently not work hard in practice and play over Holt? Whenever Holt is in at least you know you have someone with a basketball IQ in and heck he's a freshman so might as well get him experience. Does it really make a difference when Haas and Hammons are eating both their lunch anyway? At least Holt may get more than one rebound, run the floor well, play in correct position on D. This is the most frustrating personnel move to me.

Why does Hoetzel come in after 25 minutes of play then come right out?

I understand you gotta get your impact players rest, but there was a lineup, I forget who exactly, but there was no Troy no Yogi and no Blackmon I believe. That should never happen.

By the way, this may be a bit OT, but not sure where else to put it. some kid on Twitter lights into Hartman saying "play me 1v1 for your scholarship" I don't think he played well, but of all people you're coming at Hartman? Just strikes me as odd. The worst part, the tweet got a lot of love. Not a good look for the fans.

Oh, also not a good luck for our fans to be flipping off haas and basil after that loss.

No matter what people say. He's right. Its hard to recruit dominant big men. There aren't a lot of them out there and a lot of them end up going to the same place (Kentucky, Lousiville, Duke). People on this site sometimes act like all you have to do is call a recruit at the last minute and he will magically sign with us.

Dont need a dominate one every time. Just get one that can play. Watch bb all the time and there are kids everywhere in every conference who you never heard of who can play and I say to myself that guy is all we need.

Yeah. I guess my point is that Crean did recruit guys and thought he had bigs. They decided to go a different path, and we were left scrambling for whatever scraps we could find.

Not sure Crean is ever left scrambling. We are usually over signed by 2-4 players at any given point in a season and he is still recruiting guards and wings for 2015 class? It just doesn't make sense. If my tuition money was going towards his traveling expenses to watch a 2015 wing player I would be asking for a refund.

I got blasted for this earlier when I suggested Crean had not developed (beyond normal development) a single big outside of our McD bigs. When HP was playing well in the preseason people acted like I was a fool and that clearly HP was really developed.

I think It is hard for Crean to have a dominant big because they are limited and if your not a McD big you don't really excel here. Talking bigs only. Wings he does well but you cannot win with wings alone unless you are BW

If Crean cant find one big man for next year then I honestly question how much he really values coaching at IU. It's not hard, even if he has to play catch-up. Get a JUCO. Get a non-ineligible Guy Marc Michel. Get a 5th year transfer. Flip a mid-major commit. Anything. The guy doesn't even need to be dominant. If he were to average 9 and 7 a game that would be enough.

It's beyond baffling to not understand that you need height to field a competitive basketball team. If Crean was a football coach he would be fielding 200 lb offensive linemen.

I always find it funny that people act like Vonleh would have been more NBA ready had he stayed at least one more year. Based on what exactly? Crean has never shown the ability to develop a big. Hell did Zeller really show anything more than natural growth as his body matured?

Exactly.  Butler always has one, even some of our "cupcake" opponents have centers with real size & skill, yet we end up with unskilled "athletic" project players.  And while good (particularly for a freshman) Vonleh wasn't dominant by any stretch.  Bottom line is that Crean doesn't seem capable of assembling a team of parts.  At this point there's nothing to indicate we're likely to be bringing in difference makers, let alone somebody to patrol the middle.

He did not. I kept expecting Zeller to show us a mid range game his soph year but it was never there. Would have been a great to to have him take that free throw J in the middle if the Syracuse zone.

Egidius Mockevicius. He is a 6'-10 center at UE that I believe is set to graduate with a year of eligibility left. He isn't great, but he would be the best post player we would have on our roster this year. I would gladly trade a number of players we have for him. If Crean wants to be hear in 2017, he will need to address our post defense with something other than a 6'-6" wing player or a 6'-4" guard.

I was screaming at the television, for him to do this.  Breaks my heart.

Great callout. I have been to 3 UE games this year. He is averaging 12 pts 10 reb. Saw his season high against Alabama St 25 & 12. I also saw him put 12 pts & 13 reb on #13 ranked Northern Iowa. So I am pretty sure his skills would translate. Couldn't see him averaging less than 10 & 8.

I've been to one of their games but can't remember the guy you're talking about......probably bc I was too busy watching Balentine lose his mind from 3. Took the game over in a matter of a minute.
