Military I could see granting an exception for, mostly because... it's the military.

People are just different between age 18 and age 27.  27-year-old Frank Gore could run circles around 18-year-old Frank Gore. With time and maturity a lot of people improve. And, if you're allowed to play pro for a different sport in between, it's not like you can even say "well, they're giving up their future career by doing so".

Are you concerned that someone who is 27 years old would have an unfair advantage? I think it's important to remember that if there is actually some 27 year old phenom out there with eligibility, and he is looking to run circles around a bunch of college basketball players, he actually has 2 choices. He could earn no money at all and play college basketball, or he could take his superior talents to the NBA and earn a minimum of $500k a year. That seems like a pretty easy choice to me. (If by chance he is not good enough to play in the NBA, then I doubt anyone needs to be too concerned about his unfair advantage over college opponents.)

That doesn't even make sense. Unless you're a top tier NBA player you don't have an advantage in college?

...... What? The comment that doesn't make a lick of sense is yours. Where exactly did you get that he said you have to be a top tier NBA player to have an advantage in the NBA.

Also, the dude barely played for them last season when they were 4-26. My level of concern over his age is incredibly low

Matt Mauck played football at LSU after a stint in the Cubs organization.

Chris Weinke did the same thing with Florida St and he was 30 years old.

For the most part I agree. It's not something that should ever practically be an issue. But, I'd like to point out, that you can still be better than half the players on the floor and not good enough for the NBA. That's why foreign leagues exist. Plus, isn't Preston kind of showing that you can be good at another sport and just play there?

Older players are leaders and often stronger players. It's no secret, nor is it always true. But, the maturity of a 27-year-old player who was overseas level good as a Freshman on our team last year could have made a huge difference for example.

So you got top tier NBA talent from that how again? He is saying if he was actually good enough to make it in the NBA, he isn't even close, then he would have bypassed college all together.

No, what I said was not being top tier NBA talent can still give you a big advantage in college. Not NBA, college

It's Lamar. They should get some advantage. They are being paid to come here for a beating. It is Lamar.

I actually hope the kid is a tough matchup so we continue to get tested.

Right, but the question was eligibility. If we don't blow out Lamar regardless, and with lots of bench and walk on play it's a problem. And with this I step out so I don't participate in the devolution of BTownBanners to...... reddit.....

I heard this last night and was pretty astounded...a 27 year old sophomore and Don Mattingly's son. Weird.

Remember Chris Weinke? He was like 29-30 by the time he graduated at FSU. He was drafted for baseball outta HS and then later went back to play football. And won or 2nd place for Heisman one year

Didn't see much of the "old man" in the second half. Thought he did pretty well though. Looked like he may have hurt himself on the and one at the end of the first half. Of course, he could have played the entire second half without my noticing due to my rage at watching pickup game defense from our guys.
